People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said on Saturday that Jammu and Kashmir should be a bridge of friendship and understanding, not a battleground between India and Pakistan.
Addressing party workers, he said that Jammu and Kashmir has always suffered the most loss of war and violence. Our condition has become like a grass crushed in the battle of two elephants.
Mehbooba said that the PDP has always been talking about peace and has given voice to the feelings of the people. We have to end the fear of war so that people can plan their lives and the economy can be rebuilt. Jammu and Kashmir should symbolize mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation, not the battleground.
Mehbooba said- no disagreement with our Pakistani people
Taking a dig at the recent statements of the National Conference (NC) leaders, including former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah demanding strict military action against Pakistan, he said that such statements reflect dangerous thinking.
Mehbooba said, “When the Government of India suspended the Indus Water Treaty, it was welcomed by the then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah and demanded immediate closure of water supply to Pakistan.”
He said, ‘Our Pakistan government may have political disagreement, but not the people there. It is sad that the leader of the country’s only Muslim dominated state is talking like this.
Reiterating his party’s commitment to peace and conversation, he said, ‘Leaders who speak the language of war and hate need more corpses. But PDP is the only party that is constantly talking about peace and raising voice for the right to live with the honor of the people.
Mehbooba has objected to Farooq Abdullah’s statement earlier
After the Pahalgam terror attack, Farooq Abdullah said that this attack cannot be done without local support. Because how the terrorists came there, this question remains even today. Some local has definitely helped them.
Abdullah’s statement was strongly objected by former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. He wrote on social media X that such a statement by Farooq Abdullah can become a threat to Kashmiri people living in the rest of the country.
He said- This will give some media channels a chance to discredit Kashmiris and Muslims.
