There has been a stir after the bird flu in Gorakhpur confirmed. H5N1 and H9N2 virus have been found in birds in five areas of the district. In view of this, the administration has ordered the closure of mandis selling all the live birds of the city for 21 days and a campaign to kill birds in infected areas has been started.

Confirmation in these places
According to information received from the Municipal Commissioner’s Office, bird flu has been confirmed in samples taken from Jhungia Bazaar, Aluminum Factory Area, Planetary, Bhagat Chauraha and Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan Zoological Park. This information has been given on the basis of report received from National Institute of High Security Animal Disease (NIHSAD), Bhopal.

The work of sanitizing the entire region intensifies
Additional Municipal Commissioner Nirankar Singh said that according to the guidelines of the Central Government, the work of Kuling has been started within one kilometer radius of infected areas. The work of killing all the live birds and sanitizing the entire area is being done rapidly so that the spread of the virus can be prevented.

Rapid response teams of the district have been activated under the leadership of Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) for control of bird flu. Also, a control room has also been established in Sadar Veterinary Hospital, from where the entire campaign is being monitored.

Till now a total of 1,328 samples were sent from Gorakhpur district for examination, of which the virus has been confirmed at these five places. The administration has appealed to the people not to go to the infected areas and immediately inform the dead birds to the administration.
