The general public is struggling for essential things like flour, electricity, petrol. Health, education and social security sector are being cut. This decision is being severely criticized on Twitter, Facebook and local media. The opposition has called it “anti -people and opportunistic decisions”.

Did the Finance Committee had this right?

An interesting fact has also come out that the Finance Committee did not have the right to increase the salary of speaker and chairman. According to sources, this increment was a political decision, which was implemented after the approval of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. It is clear that the increment was done on the basis of political equations more than the constitutional process.

Has this happened before?

In January 2025 this year in Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif approved the increase in salary of MPs. The salary of MPA and Provincial Ministers was also increased (especially in Punjab). This step was already in controversy, and now this issue has become a cause of public dissatisfaction by incorporating the speaker/chairman.
