Some flights have been canceled for the coming one month at Delhi International Airport. According to Delhi International Airport Limited (Dial) CEO Videha Kumar Jaipuriar, Delhi Airport is scheduled to cancel 114 Daily flights from 15 June to 15 September. All the flights will be canceled, the refund of their tickets will be sent by the airlines.
Videha Kumar said that flights will be canceled to upgrade the runway at Delhi Airport. This work was late due to congestion concerns. Now the Instrument Landing System (ILS) will be developed according to CAT III standards, which will lead to safe landing in a state of low visibility commonly occurred during winter fog.
1450 flights operate every day
This upgrade is important to maintain operational efficiency during the challenging winter months. Because we often see flights are often affected due to fog. India’s largest and busiest Indira Gandhi International Airport operates around 1,450 flights per day. The runway is planned to upgrade RW 10/28, which will affect 200 flights in three months, of which 114 will be canceled and 86 will be operated for a short time.
Expected to be completed by 27 November
The runway will open again in mid -September, but the ILS upgrade is expected to be completed by November 27 just before the winter season. This deadline ensures that the airport is fully prepared to deal with the challenges arising from the winter season. In a press conference on Friday, Jaipuriar said that 1,450 aircraft are moved daily at Delhi Airport. Of these, 114 daily movement will be canceled during the runway upgrade.
Jaipuria said that passengers will have to face inconvenience for a short time, but will definitely benefit in a long time. Upgrades are expected to improve flight operations during dense fog, which often causes considerable delays. By increasing the capabilities of the runway, the target of DIAL is to reduce disruptions and to maintain the high standard of service for passengers.
Now flights will not be canceled in the cold
With the closure of the runway, the arrival capacity of the airport will be reduced from 42 flights per hour to 32, which will affect major routes like Mumbai and Patna. This strategic decision has been taken during the low journey season so that the disruption of the journey can be prevented during festivals. A climate mitigation scheme is also being prepared to deal with the extreme weather conditions, the report of which is expected to come by the end of the year.
Current upgradation involves creating the runway to CAT III-B, which is an advanced system that allows landing in extremely low visibility. The purpose of this strategic overhaul is to increase the operation of winter, which reduces the delay during fog months. All schedule changes have been coordinated with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure the minimum disruption of passengers. By upgrading to CAT III-B, the airport is significantly increasing its ability to handle adverse weather conditions, improving overall security and efficiency.
