Illegal slautering of animals in assam: The Assam Police has taken major action for illegal slaughter of cattle during Eid-ul-Azha or Bakrid in Assam. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday (June 8, 2025) that 16 people were arrested for illegally sacrificing cattle during Eid-ul-Azha or Bakrid in the state a day earlier.

The Chief Minister shared its information by posting a post on the social media platform X. He said that five illegal sacrifices were found in Gumra, Silchar, Lakhipur and Badarpur and Banga in two districts of Barak Valley of the state- Cachar.

The Chief Minister further wrote, “Our constitution guarantees the right to religious freedom, but it also talks about the rule of law and maintaining public order. On this Eid-ul-Azha, many places in Assam have revealed the illegal slaughter of cattle from many places in Assam and the distressed incidents of getting their organs.”

A total of 16 people arrested from Cachar and Sri Bhumi

He said that a total of 16 people have been arrested so far, including 9 people from Cachar and 7 from Sri Bhumi. Sharma said, “Cattle organs were found in five places. These places include areas near Cotton University (Kamrup M), Dhubri, Hozai and Sri Bhoomi (Bagragul). ”

Communal harmony is not accepted at the cost of cruelty and chaos- CM

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government is committed to maintaining communal harmony, but in any way at the cost of chaos or cruelty. “He said,” Strict action will be taken against all violencers, whether they are related to any religion or background. “
