How did the matter come up?
The matter started catching up when an NRI shared a video of the handcuffing incident on social media and wrote that the authorities treated the student like a criminal. He wrote on X, “I saw a young Indian student deported from Newark Airport last night – handcuffs, crying, behaving like a criminal. He came to fulfill his dreams, not to harm his dreams. Not to harm. As an NRI, I was feeling helpless and unhappy. It’s a human tragedy.”
According to social media user Kunal Jain, the student was speaking in Haryanvi language and was insisting that he was not crazy, but the officials were trying to show him crazy. Jain said, “These children fly after getting a visa in the morning. For some reason they are unable to tell the immigration officers the reason for their journey and they are tied as criminals and sent back from the evening flight. Every day 3-4 such cases are coming up. Such cases have increased even more in the last few days.”
