On Thursday (June 12, 2025) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, a horrific aircraft accident shook the entire country. Air India flight AI171, which left for Ahmedabad to Gatvik Airport in London, crashed in Meghaninagar area just minutes after flying. So far 265 people have died in this accident.
There were a total of 242 people in this flight, including 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew members. After the accident, the scene of the devastation on the spot was so frightening that everyone’s heart was shaken. Only one passenger is left alive in the accident. The passenger was sitting on the 11A seat and he has been rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment. According to doctors, his condition is serious but stable.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Rupani also passed away in this accident, he was 68 years old and sat on 2D seat in the flight business class. The news of his death has raged a wave of mourning in political and social corridors. The technical team of the Directorate General of Aviation (DGCA) and Air India are investigating on the spot to find out the real causes of this accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ahmedabad at 8:30 am today. His visit will be about two hours. PM Modi will go directly to the crash site from the airport, where he will take stock of the opportunity and review the relief work. After this horrific aircraft accident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the media after visiting the spot and hospital. He informed that the Government of India and all the departments of Gujarat government together are engaged in relief and rescue work. He confirmed that there were a total of 242 people in the aircraft, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. One of these passengers remains alive, from which he met personally. He said, “The aircraft had about 1.25 lakh liters of fuel at the time of the accident, and there was a fierce fire due to the heat. That is why most people could not be saved.”
