After winning the ICC Trophy of South Africa, Eden Markram went to the audience and started drinking beer. This has caused a debate about drinking alcohol during the match of cricketers.
Vinod Kambli, Vivian Richards, Gary Sobers have scored a drunken century.
New Delhi. South Africa won the ICC Trophy, while the Player of the Match, Aiden Markram celebrated it by drinking beer on the field itself. Markram corrected or wrong by drinking beer in front of thousands. Can any action be taken against them for this? All this is a matter of debate, but history is witness that there have been dozens of occasions in cricket when the players came on the field after drinking alcohol and showed the best game. Herschel Gibbs, who scored 175 runs in the biggest runchase in ODIs, also drunk this historic innings.
South Africa has a world record of chase of 435 runs in Johannesburg against Australia. African opener Herschel Gibbs then scored 175 runs off 111 balls. Later in his autobiography ‘Two the Point’, Gibbs revealed that he was drinking alcohol overnight before this match. Drug addicts had not landed till morning. Still he landed on the ground and played a historic innings.
West Indies veteran Vivian Richards has also scored a drunken century. He had told in an interview, before a county match, at night I drank too much alcohol with Ian Botham. The next day I could not see the ball properly due to drugs while batting. I was constantly missing the shot. Then some shots took place and everything went well. Later I scored 130 runs in that match.
3. Sir Gary put several pegs in lunch-break
It is a matter of the year 1973. Gary Sobers went to a nightclub after the day’s play in the Test match between West Indies and England in Lord’s. There he was fiercely drunk. Alsubah returned to the hotel and fell asleep. This happened again on the next day. Night club directly from the ground. Drink alcohol overnight. Then friends left him on the field. The match had started. His team was batting. Sobers went for batting when Rohan Kanhai was dismissed. He arrived to bat in the position of a hangover and still hit a century. But the head was moving. There was also stomach ache. The pain was unbearable. When the dressing room returned, captain Kanhai called for a brandy. After drinking several pegs, Sobers is ready again. Returned to the crease again and scored 150 runs.
Andrew Symonds of Australia was also infamous to get intoxicated. The best all -rounder of his time, Symonds, bowled in 2005 in an ODI against Bangladesh. Actually, he fell due to being drunk during the nets. Nevertheless, he performed brilliantly in the match. Symonds was also punished by the Australian Board due to their habits but they did not improve. Finally, due to alcohol, his career ended quickly.
5. Century shocked after applying ten pegs
Among Indian cricketers, Vinod Kambli has been infamous for getting intoxicated. This not only affected his career, but now he is also surrounded by many diseases. The reason for all this is considered to be alcohol addiction. Vinod Kambli once said in an interview that once he had scored a century in the morning in the Ranji Trophy match in the morning after drinking 10 pegs in the night. However, when Kambli’s statement went viral, it was said on his behalf that he was not drunk. Kambli said, ‘Our coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu was upset whether I would get up on time. But I got up and scored a century.
