The pro -Khalistan supporters insulting the tricolor and shouting slogans in support of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi reached Canada to attend the G7 Summit, where two types of pictures were seen when he arrived. On one hand, people with Khalistan support demonstrated against him.

He raised slogans like “divide India into pieces” by waving blue and yellow Khalistani flags. Prime Minister Modi’s photo was shown on his posters and behind bars of jail.

On the other hand, a large number of Indian supporters also came out on the streets in support of him. Khalistanis have accused Prime Minister Modi of killing Hardeep Singh Nijjar. His protests are likely to continue till Prime Minister Modi’s return.

An Indian supporter said that Canada has a lot to give and India is a big consumer market. This relationship should be kept above political differences. Indian supporters say that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney knows this, when he has invited PM Modi despite strong opposition from Khalistani lobby.

Prime Minister Modi’s first visit in 10 years

Calgary/Kananaskis in Canada, Alberta, have arrived in Canada to participate in Prime Minister Narendra Modi G7 Conference (16‑17 June 2025). This is his first Canadian visit to ten years. PM Modi was invited as a guest by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney, which is raising hopes of potential re-establishment in India-Canada’s stressful diplomatic relations. This is his sixth consecutive attendance at the G-7 conference. He has been called to G7 every time since 2019.

Modi will participate in two sessions today. There is a ‘outreach session’ and in the second session he will communicate with other world leaders in several bilateral meetings. A major focus of his discussion will be on energy security, technical cooperation (eg AI, quantum computing) and global economic support.
