Assam Communal Tension: Political rhetoric has intensified amidst the recent communal incidents in Assam. State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly objected to the statement of Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, in which he alleged that people of Hindu community could be behind these incidents. The Chief Minister has demanded Gogoi to present evidence or demand public apology and accused the Congress of doing politics of appeasement.
Thinking is wrong: CM Sarma
Talking to the media in North Lakhimpur, Chief Minister Himant Sarma said that “If anyone can think that a Hindu person can keep a cow’s head in the temple, then his thinking is very narrow and dirty.” He clearly said that if Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has any evidence that Hindus were involved in these incidents, then they should hand over them to the government, otherwise stop insulting the Hindu society.
Sarma alleged that the Congress has always been doing politics of appeasement and in this case too it is defaming the Hindu community without fact.
“Political conspiracy” told Gogoi’s allegation on RSS
Gaurav Gogoi recently alleged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is inciting communal sentiments in view of the upcoming assembly elections. On this, CM Sarma said that this statement has been given to take full political advantage and there is no basis for it.
Sarma said, “Those who have been arrested in Lakhipur and Dhubri in Golpada are from minority community. No Hindu has been found involved in it.” He also informed that most of the people of minority society have condemned such incidents in these cases.
More than 50 arrests, security increased
CM Sarma said that 50 people have been arrested so far in Dhubri district and 5 in Golpada, who were involved in the incidents of beef in these temples. However, he did not give any detailed information about the incidents in other places like Guwahati and Hozai.
Sarma had earlier also claimed that on 8 June, cattle were illegally slaughtered at some places on Eid day and pieces of meat were thrown near the temples. He said that the government is taking such incidents very seriously and strict action will be taken against those who disturb religious harmony.
