Jasprit Bumrah has finally revealed the reason why he did not take responsibility for captaincy in the Test series against England. In an interview, Bumrah told that the BCCI selection committee wanted to make him captain. But due to workload management, he himself refused the captaincy.
Bumrah said this in an interview with former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik on Sky Sports. He also told that during the IPL, he had discussed with the board about his future role.

Bumrah said, if he had become a captain, he would not have been right for the team … I had spoken to the BCCI. I had surgery, I was also taking advice from the doctors who treated my back. He always said that it is important to show understanding about workload. So I clearly told the selectors that I will not be able to play the whole series, and in such a situation it will not be right for the team to take captaincy.
He further said- If you played some three Tests in a series and the other two, and the two captains are different, then it can harm the team. So I took myself out of the captaincy race. I always keep the team first.

Gill became captain, Pant vice -captain
After Rohit Sharma’s retirement, Shubman Gill has been made the captain and Rishabh Pant has been given the responsibility of vice -captain. Bumrah has been facing challenges related to fitness for a long time, and the BCCI has already made it clear that he will not play all the five Test matches against England.
