Passengers are increasing both anger and anger over the international flights of Air India. On Tuesday, 7 major international flights of Air India were canceled one after the other, including AIDabad to London to AI-159, Delhi to Paris AI-143, Paris to Delhi returning to Delhi, and AI-170 from London to Amritsar.
After the sudden cancellation of these flights, there was a huge uproar at the airports, where the passengers were alleging that they were not given any prior information about the cancellation of the flight. But the real reason behind all this is directly connected by the new security order issued by DGCA on 13 June 2025, which has come into force to Air India’s Boeing Dreamliner Fleet. However, the reasons for cancellation of flight have not been stated by the airlines so far by issuing an official statement.
These seven blows canceled
AI915 – Delhi to Dubai – B788 Dreamliner
AI153 – Vienna from Delhi – B788 Dreamliner
AI143 – Delhi to Paris – B788 Dreamliner
AI159 – Ahmedabad to London – B788 Dreamliner
AI170 – Amritsar from London – B788 Dreamliner
AI133 – Bangalore to London – B788 Dreamliner
AI179 – Mumbai to San Francisco – B777 Dreamliner
Air India issued a statement saying, “We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to our passengers and we are making alternative arrangements to reach them as soon as possible. We are arranging to stay in the hotel and also returning the entire ticket amount on cancellation or honor repayment.”
What is DGCA order of June 13?
In fact, on June 13, DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) issued a special order, in which it was made mandatory for Air India’s Boeing Dreamliner aircraft to undergo anhansed safety inspection before the flight. This order was issued after the aircraft accident in Ahmedabad.
The safety check tested the aircraft in six different stages before the flight, including fuel parameter monitoring, cabin air compressor system, electronic engine control test, engine fuel actuator operation, oil system and service checking of the hydraulic system. Along with this, instructions have also been given to make proper review of the parameters before the takeoff. Due to this, the time of turning (arrival) of each flight ie the aircraft and re-departing for the next flight has increased, which is not only delayed, but also some flights have to be canceled.
Transit flights are also impacted
This order is not limited to take-off flights from India alone. If an aircraft is in the transit, such as a flight going from San Francisco to Mumbai comes to Kolkata, then it is taken off again in Kolkata. The same thing happened on Tuesday when an international flight was stopped at Kolkata Airport and passengers were taken out of the aircraft and conducted a detailed investigation.
Air India’s confession
Air India has also admitted in its statements that the turnaround time of flights has been affected due to new security measures, enhanced safety checks, and new restrictions in international aircrafts, causing delays and cancellation conditions.
Passengers are confused and angry due to the sudden cancellation of flights. Especially such passengers who are not getting alternative arrangements for their journey. At the Ahmedabad Airport, the passengers accused the Air India staff of not giving information in time and created a ruckus.
Is further cancellation possible?
According to the information, as long as this special security order will remain in force, and as long as the Boeing Dreamliner Fleet has to undergo a six-level investigation before the flight, there will be apprehension that other international flights may also be affected. Air India has limited number of Dreamliner aircraft, and all are getting extra pressure simultaneously.
