Mamta Banerjee has launched a big attack on BJP about Bangla -speaking people. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleges that Bengali speaking citizens are being targeted in BJP ruled states. It is alleged that Bengalis who have legitimate documents are also being taken as illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
During the Question Hour in the West Bengal Assembly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, BJP should be ashamed … They are calling the citizens of the country only Bangladeshi on the basis of their language. Mamta Banerjee said, I should be proud to speak in Bengali as well as Gujarati, Marathi and Hindi … If you ask me, I can speak in all these languages.
On the statement of Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, BJP MLAs created a ruckus in the West Bengal Assembly. The irony is that after the intervention of Mamata Banerjee, the people sent to Bangladesh have now returned – in such a situation, Mamata Banerjee’s allegations do not seem just political, but her argument seems to be a bit weak.
Those brought back from Bangladesh
People who have been brought back from Bangladesh are the same cases. Mehboob Sheikh, a resident of Murshidabad in West Bengal, was picked up by the Maharashtra Police on suspicion of illegal Bangladeshi migrant, and handed over to BSF. Five such people, including Mehboob Sheikh, were sent to the border of Bangladesh by BSF – but after the intervention of the West Bengal government, five people including Mehboob Sheikh have also been brought back from Bangladesh.
The same thing happened with a young couple who reached Maharashtra for the purpose of livelihood from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Fazer Mandal and Taslima, about 20 years old, were married a few days ago, and reached Maharashtra on getting construction work, but the police caught them and they were also sent to Bangladesh like Mehboob Sheikh.
Fazer Mandal, a resident of Hariharpur village of Baghdah in Bengal, showed Aadhaar card and voter ID as evidence, but the police did not listen to one. Obviously, the matter of the rest is almost the same.
Osama was also Pakistani, kept voting
Recently, in a conversation with Indian Express, Meghna Burade, Senior Inspector of Meera Road police station, justified police action. Regarding the Mehboob Sheikh case, the police officer said, “We had asked Mehboob to show concrete evidence, such as birth certificate, … We do not just accept Aadhaar or PAN card as a evidence of citizenship, because they could be misused … He could not show a valid document, nor could anyone even give evidence of family identity.”
Police arguments are their place, but the return of those who sent Bangladesh in formal way is also a proof. If Mehboob Sheikh had been a Bangladeshi, could he be brought back?
Of course they will have valid documents, and only then they can be brought. But, the matter of the police officer seems right about Aadhaar and PAN card. It is right for Mamata Banerjee to say that those people had valid documents, but they could not show the paper on asking for the police. Now if the police fault, then it is a matter of investigation. Did the police ignore the right papers presented by them?
The matter of Aadhaar and PAN card, then Osama, a resident of Rawalpindi, also told that he had all such documents. He was also voting. However, after the Pahalgam attack, he got a call from the police station, and was immediately asked to leave India.
