The Indian Navy will include its first submarine Shailo Water Craft (ASW-SWC) ‘Arnala’ on 18 June 2025. What is ‘Arnala’?
‘Arnala’ is the first anti-submarine warship of the Indian Navy, which is part of a series of 16 ASW-SWC ships. It has been made by Kolkata’s Gardens Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) and L&T Shipbuilders.

This warship will have an RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launcher. It is a 213 millimeter’s anti-Sabarine rocket system, which firing rockets over the enemy’s submarines. Apart from this, 6 light weight ASW Torpedo will be installed on it. Also, anti-Sabarine sea landmines will remain.
INS Arnala will have a 30 million CRN-91 naval gun. It is an automatic gun, which can fire 550 tablets every minute. That is, the enemy’s ship will be sieve. Its range is 4 kilometers. Apart from this, 2 OFT 12.7 millimeter M2 will be stabilized remote controlled guns. This will be the biggest warship equipped with the Indian Navy’s water jet propulsion powered system.

Historical Inspiration: Arnala Fort
The name of ‘Arnala’ is taken from Arnala Fort in Maharashtra. The fort was built in 1737 by Maratha leader Chimaji Appa.
