Japan’s famous car company Honda has created a new history. On 17 June 2025, Honda successfully test -tested its first rocket (rear -used rocket). The test took place at Taiki Town in Hokkaido province, Japan, where the 6.3 meter long rocket went to an altitude of 271.4 meters. Accurate landing with an error of just 37 cm.
This was Honda’s first experiment that proved the stability of rocket and the technique of landing. The company aims to do this rocket suborbital space flight by 2029 (flying to the verge of space without entering the Earth’s orbit).

- Honda’s rocket: A new beginning
Honda, which is known for cars, bikes and robots, is now stepping into the world of space. Honda R&D Company Limited, the research branch of Honda, has made this reusable rocket completely indigenous technology.
On 17 June 2025, the rocket was blown up at Honda Testing facility in Taiki Town. It remained in the air for 56.6 seconds, went to a height of 271.4 meters. Then landed with accurate landing, just 37 cm away from his goal. The purpose of this test was to check stability and control techniques during rocket flight and landing.

Taiki Town: Center of Space Research
Taiki Town, a small town in the southeast of Hokkaido, has become a “space town” of Japan. Here Japan Aerospace Research Agency (Jaxa), private companies and universities jointly use space. Honda started its rocket engine combustion and hovering test at this place from 2024. This time the test is a big step in this direction.
Reujable Rocket: What is special?
Rocket rockets, called reiusable launch vehicles (RLV), are a rocket that can be used repeatedly. Traditional rockets (expandable launch vehicles) are destroyed once flying, but rockets are designed to reuse. This rocket fly straight, goes to a height of 100 km. Then it lands straight. This rocket of Honda can be useful for launching satellite in future and data services in space.
Honda’s dream: Space by 2029
Honda announced in 2021 that it was working on space techniques, but the information of this test was kept secret. The company aims to achieve suborbital flights by 2029. Sub -arbitration flight is one that goes up to the verge of space (about 100 km), but does not enter the orbit of the Earth.

Honda says that this technology can help in launching satellite and services like communication, navigation and environmental monitoring. Honda Global CEO Toshihiro Mibe said that the success of this test is a big step in reusable rocket research. This is a proof of Honda’s technical ability.
Tight security arrangements
Honda gave the top priority to security for this test.
- 1 km warning area: During the test, no one could go within a radius of 1 km. Signboard, gate and security guards were deployed.
- Security System: The rocket had a special system that controlled the flight range, speed and position, so that there is no accident.
- Local cooperation: The cooperation of local administration and residents of Taiki Town was taken.
Japan’s space industry: an emerging market
The government of Japan has created billions of dollars of space venture fund to promote the space industry. Its goal is to double Japan’s space industry to 8 trillion yen (about 55.2 billion) by 2030. This fund is getting help to private companies for rockets, satellites and other missions.

Honda’s rival company Toyota has also invested in Taiki Town’s company Interstaller Technologies, which is working on mass production of rockets. This shows that automobile companies are now joining the space race.
Honda’s technical strength
Honda used its automobile and automated driving techniques to make this rocket. The company’s combustion technology, control technology (control technology) and automatic driving system helped make this rocket stable and accurate. Honda says that this technology can revolutionize areas like satellite launch and environmental monitoring in future.
future plans
Although Honda has not yet decided to launch this technology commercially, the company is working on developing technology for suborbital flight by 2029. The data from this test will be used to further improve the design of the rocket. Honda says that this rocket can contribute to communication, climate monitoring and other services by launching satellite in future.
Pal of pride for Taiki Town
This test is a pride for the residents of Taiki Town. This small town is now becoming the center of space research. Local people and administration are supporting such experiments with Honda. Jaxa and other companies also have tests in Taiki Town, due to which this place is becoming the hub of the space industry.
Honda’s rocket rocket test is a historic step for Japan’s space industry. This not only shows Honda’s technical ability, but also proves that automobile companies are now joining the space race. With a height of 271.4 meters and accurate landing, this test lays the foundation of Honda’s 2029 suborbital mission.
