After a dispute that lasted for about three weeks, ECB and BCCI launched the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy on Thursday. With this, the Pataudi Trophy was officially retired. The Cricket Board of the two countries has decided to give Pataudi medal in honor of the Pataudi family, which will be given to the winning captain of this series. The unveiling was postponed after the Ahmedabad plane accident on 14 June.
On this occasion, veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar said- ‘I am happy that it has been decided to give a medal in honor of him (Tiger Pataudi)’. There was a dispute over the retirement of the Pataudi Trophy. In such a situation, Tendulkar took the initiative to maintain Pataudi’s legacy.
This time a new trophy will be given to the winner of the Indo-England Test series, which will be named after Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson. This is a new initiative in honor of both legendary players.
Sachin Tendulkar said-
As soon as I came to know that the trophy is being renamed for the Test series between India and England. I spoke to the family of late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and assured him that the captain’s association with this series would not end.
He said-
Tiger Pataudi has played a big role in inspiring many generations, which cannot be forgotten. The Pataudi family will be connected to the series, as it has now been decided to give the new ‘Pataudi Excellence Medal’ to the victorious captain.
Tendulkar said-
I first visited England in 1988. My first flight was from Mumbai to London. Now I am very happy to have a trophy in my name.
Why was the name of Tendulkar-Anderson named Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for playing the highest 200 Test matches and scoring 15,921 Test runs. At the same time, James Anderson announced his retirement from Test cricket in the last year. Anderson is the second highest 188 Test player. He is the third highest 704 wicket bowler in Tests.
The Pataudi Trophy was named after completing 75 years in 2007 The Pataudi Trophy came into existence in 2007 to celebrate India’s 75th anniversary of its first Test in 1932. Pataudi became the youngest Indian Test captain at the age of 21. His father Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi represented both England and India.
First Test will be played in Leeds on 20 June Five Test matches will be played between India and England. The first Test will begin in Leeds from 20 June. The final Test will be played from 31 July at The Oval, London. India could not win the Test series in England after 2007. In such a situation, the team will be eyeing winning the series.
