New Delhi. The first Test between India and England starts in Headingley from Friday (June 20). India will not only be without Rahane in this Test, but also many other major seniors like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Cheteshwar Pujara will not play. Prior to the Handingley Test, Ajinkya Rahane has chosen the playing XI in which he has not given a place to Karun Nair and the famous Krishna.
Karun Nair is making a comeback after eight years after a brilliant performance in the domestic tournament. Famous Krishna was India’s third fast bowler in Australia and was a Purple Cap winner in the recently ended IPL 2025. Rahane also talked about Gill’s challenge. He said, “I think it will be a challenging task for Shubman because in Test cricket I always feel that you have to be active as a captain. I am sure Shubman will do well, but it will take time because it is completely different to captain in T20 and ODI. In Test format, sometimes you have to stay one or two steps ahead of your opponents.”
Ajinkya Rahane’s playing 11: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Shubman Gill (Captain), Dhruv Jurlel, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, Jaspreet Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh
