The assembly membership of MLA Mishrilal Yadav from Darbhanga district of Bihar has been canceled. Yadav, who was an MLA from Alinagar seat, was sentenced to two years in the old case of assault by a special court in Darbhanga. This decision was pronounced on 27 May 2025. On the basis of this, the Assembly Secretariat has issued a notification to abolish their membership.
In fact, Mishrilal Yadav became an MLA by winning elections on the ticket of Vikas Human Party (VIP) in the Bihar assembly elections of 2020. Later, he joined the BJP. Due to being convicted by the court and being sentenced to two years, his membership under the Constitution was automatically assumed.

Please tell that Mishrilal Yadav was sentenced to two years by the special MP/MLA court of Darbhanga. The case is of 29 January 2019, when Umesh Mishra of Samaila village accused the MLA and his colleague Suresh Yadav of assaulting and deliberately hurting seriously. The FIR was registered after the incident and in February 2024, the lower court sentenced both the accused to three months jail and ₹ 500 fine.
The MLA challenged the decision in the upper court, but the victim Umesh Mishra also filed a petition demanding to increase the sentence. Additional District and Sessions Judge Suman Kumar Diwakar overturned the decision of the lower court and increased the sentence from three months to two years and also imposed a fine of ₹ 1 lakh.
Due to the punishment for two years, the membership of the MLA under Article 191 of the Constitution and the Representation of the Public Representation Act 1951 was considered automatically ending. The Assembly Secretariat has also issued a notification to end their membership from 27 May 2025.
