Today is the 9th day of the ongoing war between Israel and Iran. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragachi addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting. He fiercely targeted Israel and said that ‘this war is illegitimate and we have been forcibly imposed’. Abbas Aragachi in his speech described Iran as a peace -choice country and said that Iran has contributed significantly to human civilization, culture and morality.
Aragchi said, ‘Today this country with a population of 10 crore is a victim of a big attack. This attack is being carried out by the regime which has been a terrible massacre in Palestine for the last two years and has occupied the lands of its neighboring countries. I want to remind you all your legal and moral responsibility. Every member and supervisor of the Human Rights Council should stand against this serious injustice.

‘We forcefully imposed war’
He said, ‘Israel has attacked Iran without any reason, which is an open violation of Article 2 (4) of the United Nations Charter and is against the principles of this council. This is an illegitimate and forced battle imposed, which started on 13 June Friday morning. Israel attacked our soldiers, university professors and common people. Hundreds of our citizens were killed or injured. Israel attacked residential areas, hospitals and public structures. Our peaceful nuclear facilities were also targeted, while these are under the supervision of IAEA and attacking them is completely banned according to international law. Attack on these is a serious war crime and this can lead to dangerous radioactive leakage for environment and health.
‘Battle to justify war’
Aragachi said, ‘Iran, who is a founding member of the United Nations, hopes that you will stand in favor of all justice, law and the basic principles of humanity. There has been a very merciless attack on us. This is absolutely clear and it should not be introduced incorrectly by Israel or its supporters. This aggression of Israel cannot be justified according to any law or morality. If someone justifies it, then he will also be considered a partner in this injustice. Iran is self -defense against this barbaric attack on it. We are fully prepared to protect the integrity, sovereignty and security of our country. This is our fundamental right, which has also been accepted in Article 51 of the Charter.
The Iranian Foreign Minister said, ‘Defense of peace and law is now in danger as Israel has made an illegal attack on Iran. Israel is committing a crime against war crime and humanity. The International Human Law, already weakened by Israeli’s atrocities in Palestine, is now in serious threat as Israel is violating 1949 Geneva agreements. Switzerland is the patron of Geneva agreements and has an important responsibility in this matter. Every country which is a party to 1949 agreements, especially should fulfill its responsibility under their general article 1 and 3.

‘The attack occurred when we were in a diplomatic process’
He told, ‘We were attacked when we were in a diplomatic process. On June 15, an important meeting with the US was scheduled, so that a peaceful resolution can be found for the disputes on our nuclear program. Israel has betrayed diplomacy by attacking and has caused a deep injury to the international law and the United Nations system. I want to say clearly that if the institutions and systems we have created in the last 80 years so that human rights and dignity can be protected, then now is the time to use them. Now we have to take action. To be silent or nothing cannot be an option. If we do nothing, we have to regret later. The impact of this war will not be limited to only one country, the entire region and the world beyond will be affected.
Abbas Aragachi said, ‘Even the biggest thing is that the entire international law and order based on the United Nations will be in danger. This is a historic moment for human civilization, when unjust war has been imposed on a civilized country. Every country, every United Nations institution and system of the world should be aware and take immediate action- to stop the invader, to eliminate the culture of avoiding punishment and to make criminals accountable to their crimes. ‘
