Air India Crash Victims: Identification of 247 victims from DNA test, 232 bodies handed over to relatives – Air India Crash Ahmedabad Plane Crash Victims DNA Test Reports NTC

On June 12, the work of identifying people who had been victims of horrific aircraft accident in Ahmedabad is going on fast. On Saturday, officials informed that so far 247 bodies have been identified through DNA test and 232 of them have been handed over to the relatives.

In this accident, a few minutes after the aircraft takeoff going to London, a hostel campus in Meghaninagar crashed, in which 270 people died. A total of 241 people were aboard the aircraft, while the rest of the deceased were present in the hostel building. Only one passenger survived in the accident, who is undergoing treatment.

Filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala’s death confirmed

After the investigation of the DNA sample, the death of filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala, a resident of Ahmedabad, has been confirmed. According to the police, he was passing by two -wheelers at the time of the accident. The body has been handed over to his family members. In addition to DNA, the engine and chassis number and CCTV footage of the burnt scooter were also introduced to ensure their identity.

247 DNA sample matched

Rakesh Joshi, Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, said that so far 247 DNA samples have been matched, including 187 Indians, 52 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian citizens. Indian dead include bodies of people from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Diu and Nagaland.

Dr. Joshi said that the DNA sample of the earlier family in eight cases could not be matched, so samples of other relatives have been sought. He told that “We usually give priority to take samples of father, son or daughter, if not present then samples of siblings are taken.”

Agencies working for DNA test

Due to the DNA test being a sensitive process, it is being done faster and seriously, following all the legal protocols. For this, forensic science university, health department, administration and other agencies of the state government are working together.

Deepak Pathak in Badlapur in Thane district of Maharashtra and Irfan Sheikh in Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune were given passionate farewell. Deepak was working in National Airlines for the last 11 years. His last rites were performed in the presence of thousands of people. Irfan’s body was handed over to family members on Friday after DNA matching DNA. Family, friends, neighbors and many political representatives were present at his funeral.
