The team, led by Kapil Dev, defeated the experienced English team of Bob Willis. Which was considered a strong contender to reach the final. Kapil’s team waved the tricolor with a great performance in Old Trafford.
India’s medium -speed bowlers did not allow the middle order of England to freeze. Mohinder Amarnath once again proved useful with the ball and took 2 wickets for just 27 runs in 12 overs. Kapil then took 3 wickets and threw England’s innings for 213 runs. Chasing the target, master batsman Sunil Gavaskar was dismissed for 25 runs, which broke the useful opening partnership of 46 runs.
The Thi and two senior players Amarnath and Yashpal Sharma did not disappoint. He shared a brilliant partnership of 92 runs for the third wicket, which strengthened India’s position, before Amarnath scored 46 runs. Sandeep Patil, who looked strong Sharma, was supported by Sandeep Patil. Patil scored an unbeaten 51 in 32 balls, while Sharma scored important 61 runs.
