Commandos murdered wife for dowry in 2004
The petitioner Baljinder Singh was convicted by the Sessions Court of Amritsar in 2004 for the dowry murder of his wife under Section 304-B ​​of the IPC. He spent 3 years in jail. Later, the Punjab-Haryana High Court postponed his sentence while pending his appeal. In May this year, the High Court rejected his appeal. He reached the Supreme Court against this.
Supreme Court refuses to postpone the sentence of commandos
In the Supreme Court, Baljinder’s lawyer demanded that he should not be sent to jail until his appeal is decided, but the judges refused. He said that this is not a sentence of 3 months or 6 months, which should be kept suspended now. The petitioner has been sentenced to 10 years.
The petitioner’s counsel questioned the credibility of the witnesses of the case. He said that people claiming to be an eyewitness witness were close relatives of the deceased. He also accused the petitioner of other members of the family of being involved in the murder. But he is acquitted. On this, the judges said that a notice is being issued in the case. He should keep these arguments during the hearing.
Supreme Court gave 2 weeks deferment to Baljinder for surrender
At the end of the hearing, the lawyer said that the petitioner has been a black cat commando, he has also played a role in ‘Operation Sindoor’. Let him stay out at the moment, but the judges did not agree with this argument. He said that due to serving the country, permission is not obtained to commit crime at home. The petitioner’s commando shows that he must have been physically so strong that he could alone to kill him. After this, on the request of the lawyer, the court gave 2 weeks to Baljinder to surrender.
