Salman Khan is suffering from trigeminal neuralgia: Salman Khan, who looks fit and active even at the age of 59, has revealed that he is struggling with not one but 3 serious diseases. These diseases are brain aneurysm, avi malformation and trigeminal neurolzia. Two of these diseases are related to the brain, while the third disease causes pain in the facial veins. This disease is called Triangle neuralzia which is also famous by the name of ‘suicide disease’. Salman knows about what is this trigeminal neurolzia disease and what is its symptoms and treatment and how dangerous it is, we came to know from doctors. So let’s know what he has to say on this disease.
What is a trigeminal neurolzia?
Trichiminal neuralgia (TN) is a disease that causes very severe pain on the face, which forces you to leave everything else and sit with your face. This usually occurs when the blood vessel pressures your trigeminal vein near your brainstem (the part that connects the brain to the spinal cord). This vein gives sensations to your head and face. Trichiminal neuralgia is a type of neuropathic pain. Trichiminal neuralgia is also known as Tik Dolorex.
If you understand in easy language, there is such pain in one part of the face in the trigeminal neurolzia, as if someone has given an electric shock. This pain ends in a few seconds.
Dr. Abhilash Bansal, Senior Consultant, Sparsh Hospital, Bangalore, Dr. Abhilash Bansal explained about the disease, saying, ‘There is a very important vein in our mind, which is called a trigeminal. This vein is attached to the skin of the facial and leads to the feeling of sensations, pain and even the heat of the brain. This vein is present on both sides of the face. In such a situation, it is divided into two parts.
‘We understand the example of a wire (electrical wire) about this disease. For example, there is a wire, inside which there is a copper and outside the insulation, similarly there is a safety coating on this vein. If this vein has any pressure of any other vein (blood vessel) for a long time or it collides with the trigeminal, then its coating gradually is worn. When the coating is worn, the vein is like a short circuit. As soon as this vein is active, suddenly there is sharp and shock pain, which is so sharp that the victim suddenly starts crying.
What are the symptoms of trigeminal neurolzia?
Dr. Rajul Aggarwal, director of the Neurology Department of Shri Balaji Action Medical Institute, Delhi, says, “Triangle neurolzia is mainly one of the only symptoms and it is a very severe pain on the face. This pain is usually on one side. Pain can be like electric shock or needles like pricking. There may also be cramps in your facial muscles during pain. Along with this, there can be irritation on your face and a feeling of numbness.
Types of trigeminal neurolzia
There are two types of trigeminal neurolzia depending on the symptoms.
Paroxysmal tn: In this, you have a pain with kissing which feels very sharp, but it happens sometimes. There may be pain or burning sensation on your face, which can last for a few seconds to two minutes.
TN with Continuous Pain with persistent pain: The pain in this is not as sharp as it is in the paroxysmal TN, but it lasts for a long time. You feel constant pain. The special thing is that you feel prick and jealousy along with pain.
Typically, the trigeminal neurolzia occurs on the same side of the face, but in the special case, it can occur on either side of your face. However, there is no pain at the same time on both sides. In some patients, trigeminal neurolzia pain may increase over time.
Which people can have trigeminal neurolzia?
This is a disease that can happen to anyone. Then whether it is a small child or a person above 50 years. There is no fixed time frame for this.
Is ‘suicidal disease’ trigeminal neurolzia?
Ever since Salman Khan has revealed about this disease, it is also being called a suicide disease. However, when we asked Dr. Rajul Aggarwal about this, he denied this and said that according to him it is not a suicide disease. There is just a misunderstanding among the people about this disease. It should not be called suicide disease.
Dr. Rajul said, ‘We cannot call this disease’ suicide disease ‘. In many places it has been said so, but this is not true. Perhaps the media or people have labeled it in this way, but in medical science it is not known as suicide disease. Actually, it is a very sharp, shock -like and difficult pain, which is in the vein of the face.
‘People have started calling it’ suicidal disease ‘because the pain is so sharp that the patient comes into depression and stress. In my 25 -year career and medical college experience, I have never heard anyone officially call it ‘suicide disease’. This is just a misunderstanding that people have spread.
How is the trigeminal neurolzia detected?
Doctors observe the symptoms seen in the patient to detect this disease (diagnosis). Dr. Rajul said, ‘When a patient comes to the doctor and tells that he has very severe pain on one side of the face, which remains for some time, then the doctor suspects the trigeminal neurolzia. After this, doctors get a special type of MRI scan which is called MRICSS. This test scans the trigeminal vein. It is seen from this scan that any blood vein is not touching that trigeminal vein.
Along with this, this test also sees that there is no tumor, infection, or swelling on the trigeminal. By looking at all these things, doctors are able to understand what causes the pain.
So diagnosis of this disease is done in 2 steps:
Clinical diagnosis: In this, doctors guess the symptoms of patients and guess what problems they may have.
Scanning and Testing: After hearing these symptoms, he arrives at his second step and conducts scanning-testing, which shows the real reason.
How is the treatment of trigeminal neurolzia treated?
When asked about the treatment of Triandemil Neurolzia from Dr. Rajul, he said that 4 methods are adopted for its treatment, including medicines to operation.
1. Treatment from medicines:
The most common method of treating this disease is the use of medicines. To cure patients, these medicines are first given, which reduce the sharp pain in the veins. Most people get relief from these medicines, but some people do not see the effect of these medicines.
2. Injection Therapy:
If medicines do not work on a patient, then direct injection can be given in the vein where there is pain, which gives immediate relief in pain.
3. radiofrequency ablation:
Radiofrequency treatment is a special technique to treat this disease, in which pain is reduced by heating the vein slightly. This method also provides relief to many patients.
4. Surgery:
When all the above mentioned methods fail, then it is cured by surgery. If a blood vein is constantly touching the trigeminal vein, then surgery is done. In surgery, a soft cushion part is inserted between the vein and the vein of blood. This never creates pressure between the two again.
Dr. Rajul Aggarwal said that in some patients, surgery is also done using gamma nife technology.
This is a technique in which surgery is done without incision or cut. It is done from outside a particular machine and is effective in about 75% of cases.
Does this disease become more dangerous after aging?
Responding to this question, Dr. Rajul said that there is nothing like this. He said, ‘No, this disease is only related to pain. In some patients, the side effects of drugs may be seen in some patients, but it is not fatal.
