India’s wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to express dissatisfaction over the decision of the umpire during the third day of the first Test against England. Rishabh Pant made headlines by scoring a century in both innings of the Leeds Test, but during England’s first innings, he was reprimanded for conduct on his ground.
27 -year -old Pant was found guilty of violation of level one of the ICC Code of Conduct. The ICC said in its statement, “Pant was found guilty of violation of Section 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct associated with the players and his associate staff, which is associated with disagreeing on the umpire’s decision during the international match.”
Apart from this, a demerit point has also been added to Pant’s disciplinary records, which was his first violation in the last 24 months.
The incident took place in the 61st over of England’s innings, when Harry Brook and Ben Stokes were batting. Pant was then seen arguing with the umpires about the position of the ball.
When the umpires refused to change the ball after checking the ball with the ball measuring device, the wicketkeeper threw the ball on the ground to express his dissatisfaction.
Since Pant accepted his defect and accepted the punishment proposed by ICC match referee Richie Richardson, there was no disciplinary hearing.
Pant was charged by plain umpires Chris Gafni and Paul Rifel as well as third umpire Sharfuddaula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Mike Burns.
The minimum penalty for violation of Level-1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, while the maximum penalty is 50 percent fine of the player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
India gave England a target of 371 runs to win on the fourth day of the first Test match of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which scored 21 runs without losing wickets till the stump. The Indian team was reduced to 364 runs in the second innings. Pant became the second wicketkeeper in the history of the game, which has been hundreds of innings in both innings of this Test match. Pant also became the first Indian to score two centuries in a Test match in England.
