Air india flight crash: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued a big update regarding Air India flight AI-171 aircraft accident in Ahmedabad. According to the ministry, the investigation is being done rapidly after the accident and the important data from both black boxes (CVR and FDR) has been successfully taken out. Now they are being investigated under the supervision of technical experts, so that the causes of the accident can be clearly detected.
Expert team formed soon after the accident
Soon after this aircraft accident on 13 June 2025, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of Investigation (AAIB) formed an expert team as per international standards. This team is headed by the Director General of Aaib. The team also includes aviation medical experts, Air Traffic Control (ATC) officer and Representatives of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), as the aircraft was made in the US. Every step of the creator is being taken with transparency according to India’s laws and international rules.
Black box recovery and security system
- The first black box, ie Cockpit Voice Records (CVR), was recovered from the roof of a building on 13 June.
- The second black box, ie flight data recorder (FDR), was extracted from the wreckage of the aircraft on 16 June.
- Both black boxes were preserved under strict police security and CCTV surveillance in Ahmedabad.
- On 24 June 2025, both black boxes were brought from Ahmedabad to Delhi via special aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
- The first black box reached Aaib Lab at 2 pm, while the second box was delivered by the Aaib team at 5:15 pm.
Data download and analysis process
From the evening of 24 June, technical experts of AAIB and NTSB started the process of extracting data from the black box. After this, on June 25, the data was successfully downloaded from the memory module. Now both recorders CVR and FDR data are being closely analyzed. The purpose of the investigation is to find out what activities were going on in the aircraft before the accident and whether the technical or human error became the reason.
