External Affairs Minister S.K. Jaishankar spoke on the telephone on Friday (June 27, 2025) with his counterpart of Iran, Abbas Araghchi. He appreciated Araghchi for sharing Iran’s attitude and thinking and thanked the West Asian country for providing assistance in the safe withdrawal of Indian citizens.

This conversation occurred amid increasing tension in West Asia, where regional conflicts and complex geopolitical conditions remain a matter of global concern. In recent months, the ongoing struggle between Israel and Hamas has increased instability in West Asia, whose widespread regional effects are being seen. This situation has forced many countries to take steps to ensure the safety of its citizens. India has also started Operation Indus for safe withdrawal of its citizens.
India and Iran have long friendly relations and both countries have been working together on various regional and global issues. This dialogue is considered a step towards further strengthening these relationships. In India region, it is committed to maintaining dialogue with all parties so that stress can be reduced and peace can be established.
Dr. S. Jaishankar underlined Iran’s aid and said that Iran’s cooperation in the safe return of Indian citizens is commendable. India has made extensive diplomatic efforts to remove its citizens trapped in the region.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs has appealed to Indian citizens to take precautions before traveling in the area and follow the advice of the Ministry. The Ministry has also ensured that 24 hours are available to assist the citizens trapped in the Embassy and Consulate area.
