Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Says Police Arrests All Suspects of Grenade Attacks on CRPF Camps

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday (June 27) that the police arrested all the suspects responsible for exploding at four major places in the state, including the blasts in Bokakhat last week and have also recovered the grenade kept with them.

CM said that its main conspirator is still absconding, although the police have traced it and will be caught soon.

CRPF Chief Minister said about grenade attack on camp

On Tuesday (June 24), two motorcycle -ridden miscreants attacked the camp of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Bokakhat and three police personnel present in the camp were injured in this attack.

Addressing the press meeting, CM Himant Biswa Sarma said, “There was a conspiracy to explode in Bokakhat, Guwahati, Tezpur and Lakhimpur. The police have arrested all those who were about to carry out these blasts. ”

He said that three grenades and a pistol used for the blasts have been recovered from the houses of the accused.

Not a terrorist, people of criminal mentality involved in attack

Sarma said, “In this conspiracy and attack, people with criminal mentality are not of terrorists.” He said, “Investigation is going on to find out who provoked these people for the attack. They are making contradictory statements at the moment. The arrested people are clearly not members of a militant organization, although one of them was with ULFA, but he was in jail for a long time.”

Sarma, who is also handling the home department of the state, said, “These are people with criminal mentality, one has been sent to jail in a case related to cattle theft, the other was jailed in a drug case. The campaign is going on and one person, who was the chief in it, has not been arrested yet. He is not in Assam, but we know about his hideout.”

Asked if AFSPA can be brought back from such an explosion, the Chief Minister said, “Afspa is not related to sporadic incidents. It is used in terms of long -lasting extremism. It is also outside our state and we will not do anything to bring it back.”

It is noteworthy that Armed Forces Special Powers Act/AFSPA is currently applicable in three districts of Assam, Tinsukia, Charidedev and Sivasagar.
