Jagannath rath yatra 2025: The Jagannath Yatra of Puri is going to be launched from today. The Jagannath Temple is one of the four dhams, the Shrinkum Tirtha site, which is called Baikuntha on Earth. Every year a grand Rath Yatra is taken out in the Shukla Paksha of Aashadh month, to see, lakhs of devotees from all over the country and abroad come to Puri. On this day, Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra are taken on a huge and grand chariots and taken to the Sri Gundicha temple. However, there are many special stages of this mahaparva, which last for about 12 days. This time this Mahaparva will start from June 27 and it will conclude on 8 July. Let us tell you in detail about the first day (June 27) program in Jagannath Yatra and the rituals to be done in the next few days.
First day program
6:00 am- Mangal Aarti- Mangal Aarti will be performed for the beginning of the day first.
6:10 am – Old clothes and jewelery of God will be removed.
6:30 in the morning – God will be wearing new clothes and will be performed.
7:00 am – God will be bathed and purified.
7:10 am – Lord Surya will be worshiped.
7:30 am – Gatekeeper Puja and Shringar: The gatekeepers of God will be worshiped and special clothes and jewelery will be worn to God.
From 8:00 am to 9:00 am – Sakal sun will be given and khichdi will be offered.
9:00 am – Rath Pratishtha: Chariots will be duly worshiped.
9:15 am – Mangalarapan: Mangal prayer will be done for the success of the journey.
9:30 am- Pahadi starts- Gods will be brought from the temple to the chariots.
12:30 in the afternoon- The three Gods will be seated on their chariots.
2:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon- Chhera Pahera- Gajapati Maharaj himself will clean the chariots by sweeping.
4:00 pm – Stairs will be removed from the chariots and the Rath Yatra will start.
Rath Yatra 2025 schedule
June 27 (Friday) – Rath Yatra starts
Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra will ride on three grand chariots and depart from the main temple of Puri towards the Gundicha temple. On this day, the ritual of ‘Chhera Panhara’ is also played, in which the King of Puri clears the path of the chariot with a gold broom.
1 July (Tuesday) – Hera Panchami
After staying in Gundicha temple for 5 days, Goddess Lakshmi comes to meet Lord Jagannath. This special day is known as Hera Panchami.
July 4 (Friday) – Sandhya Darshan
On this day, Gundicha temple has special darshan of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra in the evening, which is considered very auspicious.
July 5 (Saturday) – Bahu Yatra
On this day, God returns to Puri from the Gundicha temple riding on the three chariots. The three chariots are offered ‘Poda Pitha’ in the aunt’s temple.
July 6 (Sunday) – Torn Basha
On this day, Gods are decorated with gold ornaments.
7 July (Monday) – Adhara Panna
Adhara Panna is a ritual, in which Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are fed. Adhara Panna is a sweet drink, which is made from water, milk, sugar, cheese and spices in large earthen utensils.
8 July (Tuesday) – Neeladri Vijay (Closing)
This is the last day of the chariot journey. On this day Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are seated in the sanctum sanctorum of Puri temple.
Religious importance of chariot yatra
Jagannath Rath Yatra is considered very sacred and virtuous in Hinduism. It is believed that all sins of a person are destroyed by participating in this journey or pulling the chariot. Also, the virtue of joining the Rath Yatra is equal to 100 yagyas. Therefore, millions of devotees are involved in this grand festival every year.
