Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs in the second Test. With this, the Sri Lankan team won 1-0 in the 2-match Test series. The first match of the series was a draw.

On the fourth day of the Colombo Test, Sri Lanka allotted the second innings of Bangladesh for 133 runs thanks to the 5 wickets of spinner Prabath Jayasuriya. Bangladesh scored 247 runs while batting in the first innings. Shadaman Islam scored the highest 46 runs from the team.

Sri Lanka scored 458 runs in the first innings with Pathum Nisanka’s century. The team took a 211 -run lead on Bangladesh’s first innings basis. Nisanka was adjudged Player of the Match for her 158 runs.

The last 5 wickets fell for 33 runs

On the third day, Bangladesh scored 115 runs for 6 wickets and but within half an hour on the fourth day Bangladesh lost the remaining four wickets. The team lost the last 5 wickets for just 33 runs. Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya took the most 5 wickets. Apart from him, Dhananjay D. Silva and Tharindu Rathnayake got 2-2 wickets. Asitha Fernando took one wicket.

Anamul Haq, who came to start the second innings for Bangladesh, was sent to the pavilion for 19 runs in the last over on the third day before tea. Haq hit 2 fours and a six. He added 31 runs for the first wicket with Shadman Islam.

Shadman Islam (12 runs), Mominul Haq (15 runs) and Mushfiqur Rahim (26 runs) were dismissed. No batsman from the team could last long. Captain Najmul Hussain Shantio was taken by D Silva for 19 runs. Just before the third day stumps, Mehdi Hasan Miraj was LBW for 11 runs by Tharaindu Rathnayake.

Openers’ fifty partnership

In the first session of the second day, the Sri Lankan team made a strong start after allout Bangladesh for 247 runs. The pair of Pathum Nisanka and Lahiru Udara made a fifty partnership. The team’s score here was 83/0.

The partnership of Sri Lankan openers was broken by Taizul Islam. He lbw lahiru Udara on a score of 40 runs. Nisanka and Udara added 88 runs for the first wicket.

Nisanka’s third century, 194 -run partnership with Chandimal

After losing the first wicket for 88 runs, Pathum Nisanka made a century partnership with Dinesh Chandimal to bring the Sri Lankan team into a strong position. He scored 194 runs on 311 balls with Chandimal. Chandimal was dismissed for 93 runs. After Chandimal, Kusal Mendis played a fast innings of 84 runs. He was caught by Naeem Hasan at the hands of Litton Das. Nisanka was dismissed for 158 runs. He was dismissed by Taizul Islam.
