Iran Holds Funeral of Martyr Commanders – The funeral of Iranian military commanders and scientists killed in the Israeli attack

The top military commanders, nuclear scientists and some citizens were cremated during the air war with Israel this month in Iran’s capital Tehran this month. During this time, a large crowd of people dressed in black clothes flocked on the streets. According to Iran’s official media, 16 scientists and 10 senior military commanders were cremated, including Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Head of Iranian Armed Forces, Commander General Hussain Salute of Revolutionary Guards and Aamir Ali Hajizadeh, Chief General of Guards Aerospace Forces.

All these coffins were taken to Tehran’s Freedom Square and decorated with their pictures and national flags. The crowd gathered here waved the flags of Iran and some people tried to touch the coffins and spread rose petals on them. Where the bodies of all were kept, pictures of Iran’s major ballistic missiles were displayed. Later mass prayer was organized at Freedom Square. Iran’s public broadcaster said a total of 60 people were cremated in the war with Israel, including four women and four children.

On the occasion, President Masood Pipeshkian and other senior politicians and military officers were present, including Ali Shamkhani, who is an advisor to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He was seriously injured in the Israeli air strike. Mojtaba, son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was also present. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a telegram post, “Today, Iranians have protected their honor and dignity through heroic resistance against two nuclear weapons equipped regulations, and are looking more proud, more dignified and more determined to the future.”

There was no immediate statement from Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which has not come out in public since the struggle started. In the previous funerals, he led a prayer on the coffins of senior commanders before public functions aired on government television. On June 13, Israel started air strikes on several cities in Iran, including Tehran, in which the Iranian nuclear installations were targeted. Israel also attacked some residential buildings in Tehran, including many top military commanders as well as some citizens. Iran fired missiles on Israeli cities in response to these attacks.
