The Odisha government has taken action and transferred the DM and SP of Puri after the tragic accident in Puri during Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra. Let us know that at around 4:30 am on Sunday morning, there was a stampede in front of the Srigundicha temple to see God. Three devotees died and more than 50 people were injured in the stampede.

After the incident, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi called an emergency meeting with both his Deputy Chief Ministers in view of the seriousness of the situation. CM has apologized to Jagannath devotees on this accident. He said that this negligence is unforgivable and strict action will be taken against the culprits.

SP-DM transferred

In view of the huge security lapse in the stampede, Puri’s SP Vineet Aggarwal and DM Siddharth Shankar Swain have been transferred immediately. Now the new Superintendent of Police of Puri will be Pinak Mishra, who is currently holding the post of ADG Crime. He has also been SP in Puri before this. At the same time, Khurda Collector Chanchal Rana has been appointed as the new DM of Puri.

Financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the deceased

The CM has also issued orders to suspend two police officers- DCP Vishnu husband and Commandant Ajay Padhi-, terming it as ‘unforgivable negligence’. Chief Minister Majhi has also ordered an administrative inquiry into the matter, which will be conducted under the supervision of the Development Commissioner. The government has also announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the deceased.

The incident happened when Lord Jagannath was seated on the chariot and thousands of devotees gathered in front of the temple to see him. The crowd had become difficult to control. On seeing this, there were situations like stampede and stampede.
