No fuel for old vehicles: Today i.e. from July 1, 2025, the Delhi government is fully prepared with a big action plan to curb the use of old vehicles. The Delhi government is going to strike the biggest attack on pollution. Under which the end-of-life vehicle, that is, older vehicles which have been older than the time, will be identified and seized. The government says that End-off-Life Vehicles in Delhi will be fined from today. The vehicles whose age will have been completed will be seized from today.
15 -year -old petrol vehicles and ten year old diesel trains will not get fuel in Delhi from today. There will also be an invoice of Rs 10,000 if caught. The owner will have a fine of 5 thousand rupees on the confiscation of the two -wheelers whose age will be completed.
To implement this new rule smoothly, teams of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), Transport Department, Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) and Delhi Police will be present at petrol pumps in Delhi.
What is the new rule?
First of all, know what is the new rule. Recently, the Commission for Air Quality Management had made it clear on its behalf that, from 1 July 2025, such old vehicles in Delhi who have completed their fixed age limit will not be provided petrol and diesel at petrol pumps. According to the rule, diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years are placed in the category of end-off-life vehicle.
To implement this new rule, an automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) system has been installed on all the petrol pumps in Delhi, with the help of which such old vehicles will be identified.
How will this system work?
High-quality cameras have been used in the automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) system. Those who will find out their details from the number plate of all the vehicles coming to the petrol pump. If during this time an old vehicle of an end-of-life category comes to the fuel station and is identified, then the petrol pump will be announced publicly and the vehicle will be confiscated.
However, the officials told Aaj Tak that, the vehicle owners will be given a chance once, they can take their vehicle by paying the fine. But if they do not follow the rules in time, then the vehicle will be confiscated finally.
Will not get petrol and diesel
When the old vehicles are identified, the petrol pump management will have the right to refuse to fuel the said vehicle. However, now the government has implemented this rule only for petrol and diesel vehicles. Right now CNG vehicles have been excluded from it. If a petrol pump operator or vehicle owner does any kind of shakes, then strict action plan has also been prepared for this.
In Delhi, a police force will be deployed at petrol pumps in sensitive areas by Delhi Traffic Police and local police to implement this rule in a peaceful manner and to deal with any kind of dispute. Because in the past, the Petrol Pump Association demanded a police force at the fuel station. The association had expressed apprehension that, if the fuel supplied the supply of fuel could create a dispute between the petrol pump operators and the vehicle owner.
Traffic police also deployed at fuel station
Ajay Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner of Delhi Traffic Police, told in a conversation with Aaj Tak that “There are two types of petrol pumps at this time where services are being provided. One is those who run from 6 am to 11 pm and the other are those who have provided facilities for 24 hours. Petrol pumps have been identified according to sensitivity. Also, it is also seen that there are need to depart 24 hours policemen. Petrol pumps have also been identified where there is more possibility of end of life vehicle coming. “
CNG vehicles relief
Initially, the government had decided that older vehicles with petrol-diesel and CNG would be banned. But currently CNG vehicles older than 15 years have been given relief. Delhi’s Transport Commissioner Niharika Rai told Aaj Tak that, “From July 1, the Delhi Transport Department as well as all other enforcement agencies will be eyeing petrol pumps. At present, the government and government machinery will have a full focus on 10 years old diesel trains and 15 years old petrol trains.”
Action will also be taken at petrol pump
Officials said that, all petrol pumps in sensitive areas have been identified. If the rules are not followed at a fuel station, strict action will also be taken against them. The police have also identified some such petrol pumps, where the rules are more likely to be violated. There is a plan to deploy heavy police forces at such stations. Let me tell you that in order to effectively implement this new rule, the government had officially released the Standard Operating Procedure (SOPS). In which all necessary guidelines were given to petrol pump operators.
Cameras will also be installed around Delhi
This new rule is currently implemented in Delhi only. Under this, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed on Delhi’s petrol pumps only. But from November 1, there is also a plan to install these cameras at petrol pumps in the vicinity of the vicinity of Delhi like Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Sonipat. However, no action will be taken on old vehicles outside Delhi.
Why is this rule implemented?
The government wants to reduce pollution from vehicles in Delhi by removing old, more polluting vehicles from the roads through its new no fuele for old vehicle policy.
