Asaduddin Owaisi Owaisi Slams Backdoor NRC Voter Documents Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 | ‘Backdoor NRC’ in Bihar? Owaisi raised questions, said

Asaduddin Owaisi Bihar NRC Criticism: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi has questioned the new process on voter identity in Bihar. Owaisi called it ‘backdoor NRC’ and said that it would implicate the common people, especially poor, deprived and minority communities, to prove citizenship.

Owaisi wrote on X, “The backdoor NRC that is being brought to Bihar will also exclude real citizens and voters. The Election Commission has said that the people of Bihar and their parents have to prove their date and place of 11 documents from one of the 11 documents, but only 3.5% people had birth certificate in 2000.”

The Bihar Backdoor NRC will exclude genuine Voters and Citizens, Making them Vulnerable to Constant Harassment. The election commission requires biharis to prove their parents’ place and date of birth with one of 11 documents. In 2000, only 3.5% of people Had Birth… https://t.co/04OYMNCUXE

Why are Owaisi against?

In fact, the Election Commission has sought evidence of their birth from citizens under the voter list reform campaign in Bihar. For this, a list of 11 documents has been given, including birth certificates, school records, driving licenses, passports etc. The purpose of this process is said to increase the purity of the voter list, but Owaisi says that it can make common citizens suspect like NRC.

Owaisi said that even in a state like Bihar, a large population does not have documents related to birth. By 2000 only 3.5% of the people had birth certificate. In such a situation, if documents of the birth of parents are also being sought, then it will implicate millions of people in legal trouble.

Owaisi’s statement has come at a time when the political temperature in Bihar has increased and there is a possibility of assembly elections in the next few months. AIMIM is already active in Seemanchal and other Muslim dominated areas and Owaisi can use the issue as a political weapon.
