Delhi country has become the first state, which has been permission for trial of cloud seeding (artificial rain) to deal with pollution from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa gave this information on Tuesday.

He said that the trial would be done between the last week of August to the first week of September. A total of 5 trials will be done to understand how effective this technique is in reducing the smog that grows during Diwali and September.

The decision was taken at the Delhi Cabinet meeting on 7 May. The government has decided to implement this scheme in collaboration with IIT Kanpur.

According to the government, once the cost of giving artificial rain will be around 66 lakh rupees, while the entire operation will cost 55 lakh rupees. Overall, about 2 crore 55 lakh rupees will be spent on this entire trial.
