In Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, the death toll in cloudburst and flash flood incidents has increased to 11, while 34 people are still missing. This disaster, which came on Tuesday-Thursday night, caused havoc in the entire area. Administration and relief agencies are constantly looking for missing people.

CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu visited the disaster affected area Syathi village (Dharampur) and announced a special relief package. Also promised additional compensation for the loss of livestock and cowsheds. He said that the government will provide land to the people whose houses have been destroyed, even if it is under the forest department.

Alert issued in these districts
On Tuesday, 11, 4 flash floods and one landslide incidents occurred in the state, of which the most damaged in Mandi district. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of flash flood in Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Kangra and Shimla districts, which is expected to obstruct relief work.

Traffic on 151 roads in Mandi is closed, 489 transformers and 465 drinking water schemes have been affected. So far 245 roads in the entire state have been closed, 918 transformers stalled, and 3,698 water projects have been damaged.

So far 148 houses, 104 animal sheds, 14 bridges and 31 vehicles have been damaged in the disaster. 162 cattle have died, while 370 people were evacuated, out of which 31 are from Mandi.

‘Landslide even in paved land areas also worrying’
CM Sukhu took stock of the loss by doing air survey and also distributed relief material. He said that such a huge devastation has never been seen before, and landslides in paved land areas are also worrying, which needs scientific studies.

Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur, who is an MLA from Seraj area of ​​Mandi district himself, has feared that the number of missing people may increase further. He has also demanded to deliver ration by air. Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are engaged in relief and rescue on the spot.
