The police has got a big success under the campaign against drug addiction in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. An inter -state opium smuggling gang has been busted by the joint team of Anti Narcotics Task Force (AntF) and Police Station Sadar Bazar Police. In this action, the police have arrested two smugglers, including a woman, who are mother-son in the relationship.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sangeeta Devi, a resident of Jhekahi village and Dheeraj Kumar, son of Sangeeta village under Shyampur Bhatha police station in Shivhar district of Bihar. The police have recovered 2 kg 802 grams of opium, Rs 7478 cash, two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card from them. The price of recovered opium in the international market has been estimated at around Rs 28 lakh.

SP City Vyom Bindal said that the team had received secret information that two suspects were going to reach a delivery point near Vishwakarma Chowk under the railway bridge on paper mill road in Saharanpur with large quantities. On the information, AntF and Police Station Sadar Bazar Police conducted a joint operation and caught both of them on the spot.
Police interrogation has revealed that the accused used to buy opium from Nepal and used to travel by train in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. This time too, the mother-son was going to deliver delivery to a customer of Haryana through Shatabdi train, but before that he was caught by the police.
The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act against the accused. According to SP City, now the process of finding backward and forward links of this entire gang has started. Police is trying to find out who are involved in buying opium from Nepal, and who is its customer in Haryana.
