A UPSC candidate from Pune has earned only 9.1 lakh rupees for 60 days under a unique internship program. Pooja Madhav Vaval was selected for ‘Sleep Champion of the Year’ in the fourth season of Wakefit ‘Wakefit Sleep Internship’. Pooja Madhav, who wanted to become an IPS of Pune, has been declared India’s ‘Sleep Champion of the Year’ after topping the 60 -day sleep -based internship in Bengaluru. Every night she received a cash prize of Rs 9.1 lakh to get nine hours of sleep, which has selected the first number of 15 shortlist participants from more than 1 lakh candidates across India.

The purpose of this competition was to draw attention to the lack of sleep in India. Also, he participated in the challenges with the aim of improving sleep workshops and resting habits. The finalists competed in bizarre tasks such as creating beds, looking for an alarm clock, looking for an alarm clock and shutting down the final sleep to assess continuity and discipline. This competition is going on since 2019
The first edition of the internship started in 2019 and since then four seasons have been completed. With each round, millions of applications come every year in this program. Every year, selected participants – called “sleep intern” – are paid for at least 9 hours at night for 60 days for 60 days. Its goal is to monitor the quality of sleep using contactless trackers and complete the simple feedback routine, all of this they can do at their home comfortably.

Earlier, the selected candidates were evaluated through online form, video biodata and interview. Applications for season 5 are now open. Considering his victory, Vavhal said that he hopes that more and more people will start to consider sleep as necessary for recovery instead of rest time. According to the 2025 Great Indian Sleep Scorecard, 58% of Indians go to bed after 11 pm, and about half of them feel tired.
