Kiren rijiju dalai lama birthday: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the 14th Dalai Lama’s birthday celebrations in Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) on Saturday (June 5, 2025). The visit took place when the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama revealed the plan of his successor (rebirth) a few days ago, to which China reacted strongly.
According to the Gregorian calendar, the Dalai Lama’s birthday is celebrated on 6 July. A day before this visit to Union Minister Rijiju, China had advised India to take precautions on issues related to Tibet. China had said that this could affect efforts to improve India-China relations.
This statement came from the Foreign Ministry of China when Kiren Rijiju said that the successor of the Dalai Lama would decide what he wants. Rijiju’s statement is being considered as the answer to China in which he claimed that the successor of the Dalai Lama should be selected with the acceptance of Beijing.

Ministry of External Affairs Cleaned Stance
The Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) on Friday made it clear that the Government of India has no official stand on the process of selection of the Dalai Lama’s successor. Mea spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a conversation with the media, “We have seen the report of the statement of the Dalai Lama ji, in which he has spoken about the continuation of the Dalai Lama’s organization. The Indian government does not comment on the processes related to religious belief and faith.” He further said, “Religious freedom has been respected for all in India and we will remain on the same principle in future.”
The Dalai Lama said this big thing
Recently, the Dalai Lama had said that his successor would be selected by the Gaden Fodrang Trust established in India, which he himself has created. He made it clear that no other institution or country has the right to intervene in it.
This statement is considered to be a direct message to China, as China has been constantly claiming that the Dalai Lama’s successor should be elected with the acceptance of Beijing.
