Punjab and Haryana are preparing to keep their residues firmly in this meeting. Both CMs have instructed the officers to prepare the details of the relevant document and the meetings so far.
Punjab-Haryana CM has given this statement on this issue …
Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini
CM Saini has said about the delay in the construction of the Sutlej-Yamuna link canal, “Despite the Supreme Court giving clear orders in favor of Haryana, Bhagwant Man government of Punjab is on the path of conflict rather than cooperation. Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan should come down from the chariot of ego, because Punjab should work in the interest of the Gurus, but Bhagwant Maan is working in the interest of the Gurus, but the education of the Gurus is being disrespected.”
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has said, “In view of the serious water situation in Punjab, the construction of the Yamuna-Sutuj-Link Canal should be considered instead of the Sutlej-Yamuna-Link Canal. An agreement between Old Punjab and Uttar Pradesh on March 12, 1954 showed no particular area for irrigation from Yamuna water.”
In May, the Supreme Court asked for reconciliation
In May, the Supreme Court again directed Punjab and Haryana to cooperate with the Center to resolve the case. The Supreme Court had earlier appointed the Minister of Water Power as the main intermediary in this case and asked him to play an active role instead of remaining only a ‘silent audience’.

Is in cold storage since 1982 SYL
The case is related to the construction of a 214 km long SYL canal, of which 122 km was to be made in Punjab and 92 km in Haryana. Haryana completed its share, while Punjab put the project on hold in 1982. The case is in 1981, when an agreement was reached on water sharing between the two states and it was decided to build an SYL canal for better water sharing.
SC has rejected Punjab’s law
In January 2002, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Haryana and asked Punjab to build a canal as per the terms of the agreement, but the Punjab Legislative Assembly passed a law to end the 1981 agreement in 2004. This 2004 Punjab law was rejected by the Supreme Court in 2016. Since then the case has been stuck in the Supreme Court. Now the next hearing date is fixed on 13 August.
Punjab has been reprimanded by Supreme Court on the last date
During the hearing in this case on 6 May, the Supreme Court Justice Gawai reprimanded the Punjab government and said that what is it if it is not arbitrary? After the order of the canal was passed, the land acquired for its construction was made non-obliged. This is an attempt to disregard the court order. This is a clear matter of arbitrariness. Three states should have got help from this. The land was acquired for the project and then made it non-obtained.
19,500 crores to Haryana Loss
Haryana has so far lost Rs 19 thousand 500 crores due to non -construction of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL). Due to lack of irrigation water for 46 years, 10 lakh acres of agricultural land of South Haryana has reached the verge of being barren. The most important thing is that due to lack of water, the state is also losing 42 lakh tonnes of food grains every year.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi two years ago, former Chief Minister Manohar Lal kept these figures. The former CM had said that if SYL was formed in 1983 as per the 1981 agreement, Haryana could produce 130 lakh tonnes of additional food grains and other grains.
