Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami on Saturday made it clear that AIADMK is the eldest brother in an alliance with BJP in Tamil Nadu. He said that no matter how big any party is, we cannot dominate us.
AIADMK has been in power in Tamil Nadu for more than 30 years. If the alliance wins the 2026 assembly elections, there will be no coalition government in Tamil Nadu and this agreement is only for elections.
The statement of the AIADMK supremo has come at a time when the party leaders were apprehensive about the BJP dominating in the alliance. However, even before this, Palaniswami has rejected such speculation.
Doors opened for actor Vijay’s party Palaniswami announced that AIADMK would launch an election campaign from Coimbatore on 7 July. Without naming the BJP, he said that all coalition partners have been invited.
Asked if actor Vijay’s party TVK would be invited, Palaniswami said, “Those who want to remove DMK from power are welcome to the coalition.”
However, TVK passed the resolution on 4 July and declared Vijay as the party’s chief ministerial candidate. During this, Vijay had said that the party will not aligned with DMK or BJP in the Tamil Nadu elections of 2026 in any way.
AIADMK-BJP alliance was held 3 months ago Home Minister Amit Shah announced the alliance of BJP and AIADMK in Chennai on 11 April. He had said that in 2026, the Tamil Nadu assembly election would be fought under the leadership of AIADMK chief E Palaniswami. The seat -sharing will be decided after discussion later.
Shah said that there is no demand for AIADMK regarding the alliance, nor will the BJP interfere in their internal matters. The party’s joining the NDA is very beneficial for both.
Shah said- Next election DMK government will be fought on corruption, Dalits, atrocities on women. People are seeking answers from DMK on scams, people will vote on these issues in the elections.
In September 2023, the then Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai’s comments were separated from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) NDA.
Annamalai was also present at the press conference with Amit Shah, Palaniswamy at the time of the alliance announcement.
AIADMK-BJP alliance got 75 seats in the last election AIADMK ruled in Tamil Nadu till two consecutive terms (2011-2021). In the last assembly elections held in 2021, DMK won 159 out of the total 234 seats in the state. At the same time, AIADMK was reduced to just 66 seats. The BJP got 2 and other parties got 7 seats.
After DMK’s victory, MK Stalin became the Chief Minister of the state. On the other hand, AIADMK and BJP alliance broke on September 25, 2023 due to some comments by state BJP president Annamalai.
Not a single seat was found in Lok Sabha elections BJP and AIADMK contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in separate alliance, but DMK also won that election. It was considered a shock for AIADMK and BJP. Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 Lok Sabha seats.
The India alliance, led by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has won all seats. DMK has won 22, Congress 9, CPI, M) and VCK 2-2 and MDMK and IUML have won one seat each.
Congress has also won one seat of neighboring union territory Puducherry. AIADMK and BJP -led NDA could not even open an account.
Why AIADMK and BJP separated AIADMK (AIADMK) announced to leave the NDA on 25 September 2023, ending its relationship with BJP. The main reason for this was the invasive style of Tamil Nadu BJP chief’s Annamalai politics. Annamalai commented on Dravidian veteran CN Annadurai.
On 11 September 2023, Annamalai, the Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Entry, P.K. CN in a program organized in protest against Shekhar Babu’s statement against Sanatan Dharma. A statement was also made against Annadurai. He had said that ‘Annadurai had made critical remarks against Hindu faith at an event in Madurai in the 1950s, which was strongly opposed by freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthumarling Thevar.
Immediately after Annamalai’s statement, the Annadramuk leader united against the BJP state president. AIADMK asked Annamalai to apologize to Annamalai to comment on Annadurai but he did not do so.
On this, AIADMK asked the BJP leadership to remove Annamalai from the post of BJP state president of the party but the BJP high command did not do so. Due to this, AIADMK separated.
