The story of Mahabharata is recognized for the fierce war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas, but in reality this story is not a lecture of only 18 days of war. Nor should this story be seen only as a split between the family and the tragedy arising from it. This story actually tells what is the real religion of human being? Also, it also states that the creation of this man made by Brahma, to what extent and what can be done in good and evil?
This is the reason why this story starts with its last point and then it reaches its higher level through reverse order. In Naimisharanya, the first point of the sages gathered for Yajna-Tapasya is its first point, who asks the sage Ugrashrava to narrate the story of Mahabharata. The sage Ugrashrava narrates the story to him as the sage Vaishampayan told King Janmejaya. Hence sage Vaishampayan its second point and Janmejaya third. Rishi Vaishampayan narrated the story to Rajan as Maharishi Ved Vyas composed him and Sriganesh prepared him in writing. Today, all the texts of Mahabharata in the world are the transformation of the same story that came out of the mouth of the sage Ugrashrava, which the sage Vaishampayan was telling King Janmejaya to remove his mourning.
Once upon a time. In Naimisharanya, everyone asked Ugrashrava ji surrounded by sages- O sati Kulbhushan Ugrashrava. You told us the story of King Janmejaya and also told about the great gurus of Acharya Aruni Dhaumya. During this time you said that when Janmejaya returned after conquering Taxila, he came to know about the death of his father Raja Patrikari. What did Janmejaya do after this? Try us the story of this.
On this question of the sages, Ugrashrava ji said- now I am going to tell the same story to you all. You heard the story of Gurubhakta Aruni and Upamanyu, there was also a third disciple of Guru Dhaumyrishi of both of them, named Vedas. The Vedas were also gurus as two of their two gurus. Then when Ved became the sage Acharya, he became a disciple. Uttanka also considered Gurseva to be the worship of God and the Guru command sentence the Veda. Once the sage Veda went to perform a yajna for a king, then all the responsibility of the ashram was given to Uttanka. Uttanka played this responsibility properly.
Then when the sage returned the Veda, he was pleased with Uttanka and said to him, your initiation was fulfilled, you served me with enthusiasm, so you get all the knowledge and every wish is fulfilled. Now you go. Uttanka bowed to the sage and said, “My initiation is fulfilled by your blessings, so you say what should I offer to you in Guru Dakshina?” The sage Veda refused at first, but when Uttanka said a lot, he said- Okay, you ask Gurumata.
Uttanka asked Gurumata the same question. Then Gurumata, the wife of sage Vedas, told him her wish. He said that you go to the palace of King Paushy and bring the gold coil from his queen. I have taken a fast and on its completion, I will wear that coil and give food to the Brahmins. Your welfare will be
Now when Uttanka King walked towards Pausha’s palace, he realized many times that someone is behind him. Sometimes it seems that a giant man is running. Sometimes someone was seen running on a bull. Sometimes there is only a shadow but no one happens. Well, after crossing all these obstacles, Uttanka King reached the palace of Pushya. Telling the king the reason for his arrival there, he came to meet the queen with permission from him. The queen first made Uttanka pure and then gave them the divine coil. While walking, he cautioned Uttanka that you need to take them very carefully, because Nagraj Takshak wants to steal them. He has made such an effort many times. Uttanka got the attention of his obstacles found in the route. Well, he assured the queen and took a coil from him and went to Gurumata.
Now on the way, when he moved forward, he started chasing him. But Uttanka kept moving forward without fear. In this way, when he stopped a little to drink water on the way, at the same time, after seeing the opportunity, Nagraj Takshak ran away with the coil. Then Uttanka prayed to Indra and with the help of his thunderbolt reached Naglok to Takshak. In such a situation, Takshak was frightened and gave the queen’s coil to Uttanka. Well, somehow he reached Gurumata at the right time, if it was late, the auspicious time would have gone out. Uttanka took the blessings from the Kundal Gurumata and then came to Hastinapur on the orders of the Guru.
Uttanka Nagraj was angry at Takshak and wanted to take revenge on him. So he reached Hastinapur, full of anger. Janmejaya Taxila had returned there after victory and got news of his father’s death. At the same time, Uttanka also reached there and he said that, O saintly, Janamejaya.
The evil Nagraj Takshak has stunned your father. This evil spirit has also spoiled me a lot of work. So you punish it.
This Takshak stole your father and the other wrong thing that the sage Kashyap was coming to protect your father, returned them. Due to this, your father died. They could not even be saved. Now you perform the snake session yajna and in that fire, make the snakes the same in the fire and sacrifice them in the fierce fire. If you do a snake yajna, then my revenge is also complete and I will also be happy. King Janmejaya was not only in mourning with the untimely death of his father, but also became angry at the behest of Uttanka.
After narrating this story, Rishi Ugrashrava while addressing other sages said- As you all asked what Janmejaya, who was in mourning with the death of the father, is the answer to this question that the answer to this question is that the snake session Yajna i.e. Nagayagya was organized in Janmejaya. He had pledged to destroy all the snakes of the earth.
After listening to the Yajna of Janmejaya, Maharishi Shaunak ji spoke from the sages, son Ugrashrava! You told what was the reason for the anger of Uttanka Muni and the mourning of Janmejaya in your story, but now also tell me how these snakes were born in the world and what was the reason for them being consumed in this way? Then if all the snakes are consumed, then how did the snakes that appear today, how did they protect? Tell all these secrets too.
Maharishi Shaunak, after hearing this question, the sage Ugrashrava bowed to him and said in a very devotional voice- O Mahamuni, with your orders, I narrate that story mentioned in the Puranas, listen to him. It is true that snakes were sacrificed in Janmejaya’s snake yajna, but are a great sage to stop this terrible serpent. He saved the life of snakes and snakes, so Nag respects them a lot. Rather, after hearing the name of the Aastik Rishi, that snake goes to another way and there is no fear of snake bite. I tell all these secrets.
This story belongs to the golden age. Daksha Prajapati had many girls. Two of them, named Kadru and Vinata, were also married to Rishi Kashyapa. From the sage Kashyap, Kadru asked for the bride to get 1000 Nagas. At the same time, Vinata asked for the bride of only two sons who protected the best, powerful and dignity. When the time came, both women conceived, but their wombs were not normal. He came out as eggs. Kadru laid 1000 eggs and Vinata only two. With the permission of the sage, these eggs were covered with hot utensils.
When the time came, 1000 eggs of Kadru were gradually erupted, then the powerful serpents were born. Seeing this, Vinata started thinking that my eggs do not know nothing. He broke an egg eager. An infant came out of this egg that gradually grew, but Vinata saw that the upper torso of the baby was fine, but the feet of the feet were not able to be made properly. As soon as he came out, the baby started getting up in the sky and cursed Vinata in anger that, you came to Safia Dah and due to greed, he broke my egg untimely, due to which I was born with distorted organs. I curse you that you will become the maid of your same step.
But I also warn you not to break the other eggs, let it burst on time. Only your son will free you from the curse. In this way, that baby flew into the sky and became a penance of the Sun God by doing penance. He is called Arun and Surya Dev is seated on his own chariot. Vinata waited for the other eggs to explode with patience. Garun with beautiful strong wings was born with him. This Garun later became the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. In this way Nagas were born from Kadru, wife of sage Kashyap. This snake was very powerful. Some of these serpents had devotion in the heart, so they became partners in the work of the gods but many snakes were only the cause of evil. Ugrashrava ji said, Actually, he was cursed because of the consumption of serpents in Janmejaya’s snake yagya.
The sage was very surprised to hear this story. He said- We understood how the serpents were born and why Janmejaya also had to perform a snake yagna, but you have mentioned the curse received by the serpents in this story. How did the serpents get this curse? On this, Ugrashrava ji said- Nagas got this curse due to a divine horse named Uchhaishrava. This horse is very powerful and is capable of flying from the earth to the sky. There is no other horse like it on earth. This horse was found by the gods from the ocean churning. The same ocean churning from which nectar was received.
Shaunak Rishi said- Son Ugrashrava, you tell a very beautiful story. Although we all know the story of Sagar Manthan, you will enjoy hearing this story from you. Say son, tell the divine story of Sagar Manthan.
The sage Ugrashrava, after hearing praise from Maharishi Shaunak, bowed to him and narrated the story of Sagar Manthan. Once the gods sage Durvasa cursed the arrogant gods to become Lakshmiless. Due to this curse, the deity became forceless and inferior. On the other hand, Asura Guru Shukracharya learned Mrityunjaya Mantra from Shiva. When the Asuras came to know about the gods being powerless, they created a ruckus in the three worlds under the leadership of Asura Raj Bali and also took over heaven.
Now the gods went to Vishnu’s shelter to ask the remedies of victory over the Asuras. Lord Vishnu advised him to churn the ocean and said that the nectar that will be attained from it, the gods will become immortal by drinking it, but the churning of Sagar was neither a matter of control of the gods alone nor the Asuras. Then on the persuasion of Vishnu, Devraj Indra met King Bali and convinced him for churning the ocean.
In the ocean, the peak of Mandrachal mountain was brought to Mathani and Nagraj Vasuki was wrapped around the mountain like a rope. When the Mandrachal mountain was not able to stabilize in the sea, Lord Vishnu came as Kurma (turtle) and he stabilized the Mandrachal on his back. In this way the sea churning started. First of all, poison came out of this churning, which Lord Shiva accepted. After this, Kaustubh Mani, Kalpavriksha, Moon, Goddess Lakshmi, Airavat Elephant, Sura, Rambha Apsara and Udhashrava horses came out. Amrit was received in the last from this sea churning.
When there was a struggle between the gods and asuras about this nectar, Lord Vishnu came as Mohini and he cleverly gave the nectar to the gods, but this cleverness was understood by Swarbhanu, the commander of the sacrifice. He stood up just ahead of the Moon and the Sun, disguised as the gods. Lord Vishnu, who became Mohini, also gave him to drink nectar, but at the same time, who is the Sun and Moon, who is this, started making noise. Then Swarbhanu came in real form.
He soon tried to drink nectar, but he could reach his neck that Lord Vishnu cut his throat with Sudarshan. Swarbhanu became alive in two parts, not dead due to drinking nectar. His head was called Rahu and became a body. He warned the Sun and the Moon that I will eat both of you. In this way Rahu got a place in the planetary board and became the cause of sun and lunar eclipse.
After narrating this story of Sagar Manthan, the sage Ugrashrava stopped and then said- sages, you heard how the high-sighted horse of you was born from Sagar Manthan. Later on, this high -sighted horse became the reason for the curse of the serpents and he had to be consumed in the snake yagya of Janmejaya.
