‘Will the madrasa class run at the time of sleeping?’, This Islamic scholar sought an answer from Kerala CM

All Kerala Jem-Iyathul Ulama said on Saturday (July 12, 2025) that there is a need to discuss the revised time of the school before implementing. All Kerala Jem-Iyathul Ulama is a major religious organization among Sunni Muslims of Kerala and is also commonly called ‘Samasta’.

Prominent Islamic scholar and Samast leader Syed Jifri Muthukoya Tould told reporters in Kozhikode that the response of those representing the government on this issue should be humble and not stubborn. He gave this statement in response to the journalists in response to the attention that the state’s general education minister V. Shivnakutty has said that the school time cannot be changed for a particular community.

Chief Minister will have to answer the memorandum

Thangal said that Samasta had given his concerns in writing to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and had to answer it. The minister (Shivnakutty) can say whatever he wants, but we have given our memorandum to the Chief Minister. Therefore, they (Vijayan) will have to answer.

He said that the government is present to protect the interests of communities. This is the need of a large community. If this community vote in elections, then the government should discuss this issue. Thungle also questioned whether madrasa classes will be held at bedtime, there are only 24 hours a day.

School time increased by 30 minutes

Meanwhile, Shivnakutty reiterated that according to the instructions of the Kerala High Court, school time has been extended 30 minutes. 15 minutes in the first part of the day and 15 minutes in the second part. He said that he is not taking any ‘arrogant’ stance on this issue and he cannot go out of the court order.

The minister said that he is ready to interact with Samasta or any other organization, but there can be no discussion regarding the court order. Changes in the time of schools have become an issue in the state and it is being opposed by some Muslim organizations, including Sames, which argues that it will affect the classes of madrasas.
