IIM-Calcutta Rape Case: ‘Not rape, daughter fell from auto’, new mode in IIM Calcutta case, father refuses allegations

IIM-Calcutta Rape Case: The incident of alleged rape of a woman in the campus of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta has once again raised questions about the governance of West Bengal. Meanwhile, the father of the woman who was a victim of rape said something that has brought a new twist in the whole matter. In fact, the victim’s father has denied the rape incident and said that his daughter had fallen from an auto rickshaw.

Speaking to the press on Saturday (July 12, 2025), the victim’s father said, ‘He received a call on Friday (July 11, 2025) at around 9:34 pm, stating that her daughter had fallen from the auto and fainted. He has been admitted to the Department of Neurology of SSKM Hospital and the police has taken him there.

Daughter herself refuses sexual harassment

The father further said, ‘The daughter has told me that nothing like sexual harassment has happened to her. I have got my daughter back and she is fine. The daughter who has been arrested has no relation with the daughter. The daughter went to submit only one document there.

The father said that there is not much talk to the daughter yet, because she is sleeping. I will talk to him after he wakes up. His daughter was asked to write something as a complaint at the police station and she also wrote.

Counsel for accused argued in court

On the other hand, the lawyer of the accused student said in a Kolkata court that the woman was a counselor. Both were connected online and went to the hostel of the student at IIM to give women counseling.

The truth will be known only after investigation

At the same time, the ruling Trinamool Congress of the state said that no party should politicize the incident, because at this time it is too early to say what was really happened and the police should be allowed to do their work (investigation).

Expressing displeasure over the attempts to connect the woman’s complaint to Trinamool, Trinamool state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said, ‘His party should not be linked to every complaint, every alleged crime. Did he tell us before registering the complaint, not at all. Now his father is saying something else to the media, did he ask us. We should wait for the investigation to be completed.
