In the Lord’s Test match against England, Indian team opener KL Rahul has performed brilliantly with the bat. Rahul scored a century in the first innings of the Indian team. Rahul completed his century off 176 balls with the help of 13 fours. This was the 10th century of Rahul’s Test career and the second century of the current series. Rahul had earlier scored 137 runs in the Leeds Test match.
KL Rahul, however, went on his next ball after completing the century. Rahul was dismissed by Shoaib Bashir. Rahul has played a century in the second consecutive Test at Lord’s. Please tell that Rahul scored a century on this ground in August 2021. Then he scored 129 runs in India’s first innings. Rahul is the second Indian batsman to score two or more centuries in Lord’s. Dilip Vengsarkar scored 3 centuries on this ground, which is the highest among foreign batsmen.
KL Rahul is the fourth foreign opener who has scored two centuries on the grounds of Lord’s. Earlier, Bill Brown (Australia), Gordon Greenies (West Indies) and Graeme Smith (South Africa) were able to do so. This was KL Rahul’s fourth Test century in England. Graeme Smith (5) scored more than Rahul in foreign openers in England since 2000.
If seen, nine out of ten Test centuries of KL Rahul have come on foreign grounds. Rahul scored four Test centuries in England. Whereas in South Africa, two Test centuries came out of his bat. Rahul scored one Test century each in Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies and India. Rahul is the third batsman to score 9 out of his first 10 Test centuries on foreign land. Only Ken Barrington (England) and Mohinder Amarnath (India) were able to do so.
In India’s first innings in the Lord’s Test match, KL Rahul along with Rishabh Pant added 141 runs for the fourth wicket. The Rahul-Pant pair has so far made century partnerships in three of the four Test innings in England, which is the highest for an Indian pair. There was a partnership of 195 runs in the Leeds Test match between Rahul-Pant this year. At the same time, in the year 2018, both of them partnered 204 runs in the Oval Test match.
