The initial investigation report of the Air India aircraft accident has been released on Saturday (July 12, 2025). This report has been prepared by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). The report said that a few minutes after the flying, the fuel supply stopped till the engines of the aircraft, due to which the accident occurred. However, this report has given just a big reason, but many more questions related to the accident have still not been found. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has also responded to this report.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said in his first response to the report, “It would not be right to reach any conclusion until the full investigation report comes.” He has appealed to everyone to take restraint. Even after the report, it is not clear why the supply of fuel suddenly stopped. Was it a technical fault or did it happen due to any human mistake? The answer to these questions is still pending.
Aaib report revealed double engine failure
According to the initial report, the fuel supply was suddenly closed due to the failure of both engines. At the time of the accident, the aircraft did not even catch enough height, which failed to make efforts to start the engine again. There are many questions even after the initial report came out, the answer is yet to come.
1. How did the fuel supply stop? Experts raised questions
Speaking to CNN-NEWS18, Aviation experts said that the fuel switches of the aircraft cannot change automatically. This is a completely mechanical process, in which many security arrangements are already there. Former Indian Air Force pilot Ehsan Khalid said, “Fuel switch is manually replaced after landing in cut off position. There is a safety guard under this switch, which cannot be removed until the springs inside are lifted up.” That is, this process cannot be done on its own. Someone must have changed it by deliberately or mistake.
2. Did the fuel cutoff switch the pilot change?
In the initial report of AAIB, this important question has come out who changed the fuel cutoff switch and why. In this regard, the investigation team has cited the conversation of the Cockpit Voice Records (CVR), in which the issue was heard between two pilots on this issue.
According to the report, “In the cockpit recording, a pilot asks the other,” Why did you do the fuel cutoff? “The other pilot responds to this,” I did not. ” However, it has not been clarified in the report yet which pilot asked and who gave the answer.
3. Pilots interactions and questions raised on CVR data
This flight lasted for about 38 seconds, but in such a serious situation, only one dialogue is considered doubtful. Now the question is arising whether the data of Cockpit Voice Records (CVR) is incomplete? Was the entire conversation not deliberately included in the report? These questions have made the accident more mysterious. The entire truth will now be revealed from the final report.
4. What fuel cutoff caused technical fault?
According to experts, the failure of both fuel cutoff switches together makes them think. Nevertheless, the AAIB report mentions FAA’s 2018 warning, stating that some Boeing 737 aircraft had fuel switches without locking features. A similar design was also in Boeing 787-8 VT-ANB aircraft. Although FAA did not consider it a serious threat then, but now the question arises whether the same technical flaw became the reason for this accident?
