Birmingham: The Indian women’s team, which ensured the first T20 series win on the land of England for the first time, lost by five wickets against the hosts in the fifth and last T20 match here on Saturday. India, however, won the series 3–2.

India scored 167 runs for seven wickets with Shefali Verma’s 75 -run fiery innings, but Inland won the match by scoring 168 runs with five wickets remaining on the last ball. India’s vice -captain Smriti Mandhana, who came out to bat toss defeat, started with two consecutive fours on M Arlot (one wicket for 42 runs) but caught Linse Smith on the last ball.

Harleen Deol was also bowled by Sophie Eklestone (two wickets for 28 runs) after scoring just four runs. Shefali held one end, he scored 20 runs in the seventh over with three fours and a six on this wong.

Shefali scored a half -century in just 23 balls by hitting a four in covers on Eklestone, jointly the second fastest half -century of an Indian in the Women’s T20. Maiya Cutter took India’s score of 111 for five wickets in the 14th over, Shefali scored 111 runs, Shefali faced 41 balls and hit 14 fours and a six.

Wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh then scored 24 off 16 balls while Radha Yadav scored 14 runs in 14 balls, adding 56 runs in the last 41 balls. Chasing the target, opener Sophia Dunkley (46 runs, 30 balls) and Danielie Watt Hodge (56 runs, 37 balls) gave England a brilliant start by sharing 101 runs in just 10.4 overs for the first wicket.

India attempted to return by dismissing Dunkley and Wat Hodge after a century partnership, but captain Tammy Buomont (30) and the slaughter (16) won the hosts. England needed six runs to win in the final over. Arundhati Reddy (two wickets for 47) dismissed Buumont and Amy Jones but Eklestone and Page Skofyld brought the team to the target.
