The water level of Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Sangam city Prayagraj of UP is continuously increasing, due to which the risk of flood has deepened. In the last 24 hours, the water level at the Ganges Phaphamau Ghat has increased by 09 centimeters and in Chhatnag by 59 centimeters. The Yamuna river has also climbed 27 centimeters above Naini. The flood water has now reached the wall of Hanuman temple, which is a severe bell of danger.
Due to floods, the major roads going to Sangam have been flooded, due to which the devotees and local shopkeepers are facing a lot of problems. Corridors built during Kumbh are also on the verge of drowning in water. Many bathing ghats of Sangam region have been submerged, due to which devotees are forced to take a bath on the streets.
The pilgrim priests, shopkeepers and other local people are engaged in transporting their belongings to safe places. Many people are trying to escape the flood waters, taking out their belongings from the huts. Water police and SDRF teams have been deployed by the local administration. Also, 88 flood posts in the district have been placed on alert mode.
The water level of Ganga and Yamuna is being monitored 24 hours from the control room of the irrigation department. Although both the rivers are flowing about 5 meters below the danger mark at the moment, the situation can worsen in the coming days, given the way rain and water coming from the mountains.
Local youth Manoj Kushwaha, Purohit Rajesh Pathak and resident Abhishek Gautam said that such a situation is created every year, but this time the water level is increasing rapidly. The administration should start relief work at the earliest.
