Indian Army conducted drone attack on Myanmar border? Army replied on ULFA claim – ULFA Claims Drone Attacks on its camps by Indian Army, Defense Official Says No Such Information Ntcpan

The banned militant organization United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent i.e. ULFA (I) on Sunday claimed that the Indian Army has attacked a drone on its camp on the Myanmar border, in which a senior leader of the organization has died. However, this development has not been confirmed by the Indian Armed Forces.

ULFA claims drone attack

ULFA (I) said in a press statement that many mobile camps were attacked with drones in the early hours of Sunday. It claimed that a senior leader of the banned organization was killed in the attacks, while around 19 others were injured. On contact, the defense spokesperson told PTI that there is no information about any such attack. Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat said, “The Indian Army has no information about any such operation.”

According to reports, the organization claimed that more than 150 drones were used in the attack. The organization said that Lieutenant General Nayan Asom of the organization was killed and 19 others were injured in the attacks. In another press release, ULFA-I claimed that two more leaders, Brigadier Ganesh Asom and Colonel Pradeep Asom, were killed in a later missile attack.

Armed forces rejected claim

ULFA (I), led by Paresh Barua, is not part of the peace agreement with India. The Indian Army and the paramilitary forces Assam Rifles said that they are not aware of any strike in the neighboring country, which is facing civil war after the military coup in February 2021. The Indian Armed Forces are deployed under the security of about 1,643 km long border between India-Myanmar.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on a statement issued by ULFA (I) that the Assam Police is not involved in it and no attack was carried out from the land of Assam. Defense officers usually issue statements after such incidents. No such statement has been issued from his side either.

ULFA (I) is the only militant group in Assam that has neither made any peace agreement with the government nor dissolved. This has denied the ceasefire talks until the government agrees to discuss the sovereignty of Assam. The militant organization ULFA, formed in 1979, was banned by the central government in 1990 itself.

ULFA not involved in peace agreement (i)

Recently, there was a signed on tripartite peace agreement between the Central Government, Assam government and ULFA and this was the first time in 40 years when an armed militant organization has signed a peace agreement. But Paresh Barua -led radical organization Ulfa (I) refused to participate in this agreement.

After its formation, in 2010, ULFA was divided into two parts. One faction was led by Aurobind Rajkhova, who was in favor of negotiations with the government, while the other faction was in the hands of Paresh Barua, who was opposed to the conversation.
