Where did Ravi Shastri miss Team India.
Highlights
- India lost closely in Lord’s Test
- Team India is 1-2 behind in the series
- Shastri explained the reason for India’s defeat
Ravi Shastri said in ‘The ICC Review’, ‘The first turning point for me in this Test match Rishabh Pant was out (in the first innings). Shastri appreciated England captain Ben Stokes’s understanding, who scored Pant out for 74 runs at lunch on the third day. He said, ‘Ben Stokes showed amazing understanding to run out Pant. If this wicket did not fall, India would have reached a good position.
Karun Nair and KL Rahul had brought India’s score to 41 runs in the second innings on the fourth day, but Karun did not play any shot off the ball of fast bowler Bridan Cars and was declared out. This stuttered the Indian innings and got England a chance to return. The Shastri said, ‘This was a big lapse about Karun Nair’s concentration. He left a straight ball and opened the way for England. It was an important phase of the match and I think this changed the position of the match.
‘His defense was very strong’
The former Indian captain also said that the Indian top order should have shown a little more understanding in the second innings. Shastri said, ‘Because we saw that when Siraj batted, when Bumrah batted, when Jadeja batted, once the ball became 40 overs, he hardly made any mistake. His defense was quite strong and on the fifth day it seemed at lunch that the match would end in the next 10 minutes. In such a situation, it was a big achievement to bring the difference of 82 or 83 runs to 22 runs. This shows that if the top order had shown some persistence on the fourth day, then India would have won this match.
