Amidst the ongoing tension with India, the US has declared TRF (The Resistance Front) as a global terrorist organization. This may be a major setback for Pakistan, as the US State Department has directly termed TRF as a ‘front’ and ‘proxy’ of the terrorist organization Lashkar -e -Taiba.
India has welcomed America’s tough stand on terrorism, because India also believes that TRF and Lashkar are not separate organizations. The US State Department has put TRF in the category of Nominated Foren Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Special Designed Global Terrorist (SDGT).
TRF took responsibility for Pahalgam attack
According to the US State Department, TRF took responsibility for the Pahalgam attack on 22 April 2025, in which 26 innocent citizens were killed. According to the US, Pahalgam attack is the deadliest attack after the Mumbai terror attack in 2008. Even before the Pahalgam attack, TRF has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Trump administration protects national interests
US foreign secretary Marco Rubio issued a statement saying that declaring TRF as a global terrorist organization, ‘Trump administration protects national interests, combat terrorism and the commitment of President Trump’s implementation of justice to Pahalgam attack.’
The US has added TRF and other related surnames to nominate Lashkar-e-Taiba as FTO and SDGT by order under Section 219 and Executive Order 13224 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Zero tolerance policy towards terrorism
The move of America by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shows the commitment of the two countries (India and America) to fight against terrorism. Praising the Rubio and the US State Department, Jaishankar said that the two countries have a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
In order to avenge the Pahalgam attack, US President Donald Trump tried to rob the accolades against Pakistan to play an important role in stopping the operation against Pakistan. India had expressed displeasure over this. After that, India’s anger reached the seventh sky by inviting Pakistan’s Fled (Field) Marshal Asim Munir at the White House at lunch. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had rejected Trump’s US invitation.
India gave a direct answer
India’s anger was also reasonable because America tried to weigh India and Pakistan in the same scales. India has bluntly stated that comparison of the country (India) suffering from terrorism will not be accepted at all with the country (Pakistan), which raise and promoted terrorism.
In 2019, the existence of TRF came to light only after removing Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. The TRF conspired to call Lashkar and Pakistan’s anti-India activities the voice of the local Kashmiri people. In the year 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs called TRF as a terrorist organization and banned under the UAPA.
Indian security agencies have strong evidence
India’s security agencies have strong evidence that TRF has full support from Lashkar as well as the Pakistani government and intelligence agency ISI. Terrorists Mohammad Abbas Sheikh, Sheikh Sajjad Gul, Basit Ahmed Dar and Ahmed Khalid played important roles in the establishment of TRF.
Abbas Sheikh and Basit have been killed by India’s security agencies in separate operations. According to intelligence agencies, Khalid is now a TRF spokesperson and operates an account in the name of Kashmir-Fight on social media.
